Here are some of our Vermont ramblings. Home of the covered bridge!
A lot of bridges were damaged during Hurricane Irene, but this was repaired. This was in uber quaint Woodstock.
On Monday, We hiked down Quechee Gorge on the trail. It’s not very long, but somewhat steep on one side.
There is a dam on the high end:

Now down at the bottom on the other side.
At the bottom was a small piece of slate that a breast cancer survivor left, which was touching.
We spent the night in West Lebanon at the Coolidge Hotel, which is on the historic register and pretty neat! It’s old and has a lot of charm. Some people probably wouldn’t like it, but I thought it was neat!
Of course, you know we sniffed out coffee shops. This was Tucker Box next to the hotel.
We spent some time at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science, which is a NFP bird rescue and education center.
I had posted some pics on facebook of the birds, but here are a couple more. All of the birds here were rehabbed from injury or from being imprinted on people (therefore cannot be wild). Only the barn owl was raised by a breeder.

As we headed to New Hampshire, we had to stop at King Arthur Baking Company Headquarters. They have a huge store there.
I didn’t buy anything, though, as we can get KA stuff in our grocery stores. I did have something at the cafe, though. YUM!

How fun to see the bakers in action! It seems like you hardly ever get a chance to see this kind of thing anymore. Plus the gorge is beautiful. Oh, and the baked goods look lovely too. Yumm. That owl is so beautiful. I would love to see one that close in person.
Beautiful birds! I’m a sucker for anything bird-related. Thank goodness I wasn’t there to smell that bread…I might have gone into withdrawl convulsions! Vermont is beautiful, and I hope to visit one day!

I was in Vermont last weekend at our daughter’s college graduation and commissioning. I am from Vermont and it was fun to see my beloved state from your eyes as well. Home is where the USMC sends us but both of our cars are sporting the “Vermont Strong” license plates you may have seen while there sending some money back into the State from Hurricane Irene’s damage that is still evident in many places. As a child growing up I would have NEVER imagined a hurricane in Vermont on any level. You should go to King Arthur Flour sometime….Mmmmmm…..
Can’t believe you escaped KA without buying anything. In our stores, we are lucky to find KA regular white flour (which I don’t buy anyway!!) much less any of their other products. Of course, we have some brands that are more local to us you would never have heard of, but I still like KA. And here I am trying to figure out a way back up to Vermont just to go to KA again. I’ll check out the Coolidge Hotel. Sounds like my kind of place. Glad you are having fun.

How gorgeous! That covered bridge reminds me of a scene in Sleepy Hollow. Gorgeous in the morning but potentially spooky at night.
