What’s Blooming!

I have some fun new flowers to show you this week.  I was worried that these were going to open up and be spent during our vacation, but they were very slow at opening.

First off are my bleeding hearts.  These got a lot bigger.  The 2 plants are on each side of my bowling ball!

Not sure if I ever told the story of the bowling ball.  It came from my first flip house.  There was junk in the home still when I bought it – although the bank cleaned most of it out upon request.  However, the bowling ball was still in there and struck me  as funny for some reason.  My MIL has bowling balls in her garden and I thought they were fun, so I kept this as a memento of that house.

These are so pretty!

Near these in the shade garden are the lily of the valleys.  One of my favorites.

These spread like crazy.  Found them in the lawn this year.

I had some tulips left, like the purple passion:

You can see the queen of the nights and the fringe tulips in the background as well.  As of today, these are all done.  The petals all fell off during the week with all the rain.

Snow Queen clematis opened up!

This plant has been in my garden for 5 years now, I think, and it never really gets bigger.  It sends out a lot of flowers, but not much in the way of greenery.

Now the new ones!  A couple of years ago, I got some iris rhizomes from my neighbor.  We didn’t know what color they were or anything.  Well, I had put them in a spot that was too shady and they never bloomed.  So when I expanded the garden bed last fall, I moved those irises over and voila! I have blooms!

I don’t know much about iris, so I don’t even know what kind this is.

They obviously love this new spot because there is a ton of buds.

The other new plant is an allium.  These are members of the onion family and are bulbs.  The flowers don’t smell like onions, though 😀

Aren’t they fun?  They remind me of fireworks for some reason.

I actually have another variety of these that are going to bloom soon.  I must get more of these bulbs!

I also need to move my tippy pots.  I first put them in bare ground in early spring:

I kind of forgot how much this would fill in.  Now it looks like this!

Oops!  The daylilies aren’t even close to their size, either.  So, I will have to move this over to the left.

I really wanted to get into the garden this weekend to much and weed, but the forecast is for 50s and rainy.  Yuck!  That also means no biking.  Gonna have to find something else for entertainment.

Beautiful purple flowers! Especially the tulip with the rain on it. 🙂 You take great photos.

The only thing “blooming” in my garden is kale and sort of spinach (the spinach isn’t doing well). I also discovered an onion from last year’s garden! LOL

I love seeing your flowers, so pretty. The bleeding hearts always remind me of my grandmas garden. I need some in my yard, just have to find some shade.

Bleeding hearts are very old fashioned flowers. They were just renamed, too! The official name is now Lamprocapnos spectabilis (I just read this today).

I love the bowling ball! And oh my goodness those flowers are just beautiful! I love the Lilly of the Valleys and the alliums! Ive never seen anything like them before. You make me want to plant flowers! But I know that there is soooooooo much more to just planting them. And alas my thumbs are not green! Beautiful 🙂

Oh how fun to see someone else’s inspiration when I have spent the day working in the yard, and trying to make a “sun chart” to see where my yard really gets sun.

I love the bleeding hearts so much. I hope mine will get as big as yours now that they are in the ground. And I must get some lily of the valley. Those two flowers seem like they go together.

    The surprise iris are beautiful.

The flowers look so nice! It’s WAY too hot in Texas to grow those delicate things, but I really like looking at yours!

I love all the flowers! So pretty. I’d like to plant some bleeding hearts. I don’t have a whole lot of flowers, but I do like to plant a few things each year. I planted some peonies a few years ago and they are finally getting blooms this year!

LOVE your yard and blooms. We are fighting so hard to get everything under control. The previous owner of our house didn’t care much for the yard so it’s a mess.
I love your Clematis. We have some dark purple ones growing up our mailbox, but the white are just stunning!
