What’s Blooming!

Another Friday post.  That was a rough work week.  Phew. Doesn’t look to get better any time soon, either, unfortunately.

One thing that always makes me happy and relieves stress? My garden!  Just looking at it makes me happy.

I moved my birdbath from the side shade bed to the middle of the front and really like it there.  It even got a good scrubbing  😳

The sun drops are starting to open up.  They got pretty beaten down by all the rain this week, so I might need to prop them up.

There are lots of buds, though.

I have some self seeding snapdragons.

I don’t remember what the original color of the parents were several years ago, but each year I get different colors from the seeds that spread.  I deadhead these right into the bed and let them go wherever they want.

My first coneflower opened up as well.  The hot papaya!

This plant always sends out one early bud and then it will be July for the rest. Not sure why that happens.

John got a lot of the walkway cleared out.

We need to rent a jackhammer for this last section. Whomever poured the concrete actually poured it over the old sidewalk underneath so there are 2 layers stuck together and they won’t break up.

My garden path on the edge to nowhere:

Scentimental rose bush with tons of blooms.

Here is progress on one of the tippy pots.  These are pink wave petunias with some lobelia on the bottom.

I saw a couple ladies walking by and pointing towards the garden, and I bet this is what they were pointing at.

Campanulas:

These are small mounds of foliage that send up long flower stalks.  I moved these last fall and they seem to like this new spot.

I have all my potted plants on the back stoop.  I shopped the discount rack at Lowe’s and found some  dahlias for $3.  Score!  They didn’t have blooms on them (which is probably why they were on sale), but you just wait a bit and you get them.

Such a cool color, too.

Pixie was watching me from the back door while I was taking these pictures.

She wants outside so bad!

Finally got the burning bush trimmed.  We planted this 5 or 6 years ago as a small gallon plant and look at it today!

It actually was growing over the path.  This is the first time we have ever trimmed it.

It’s bloomin’ time, that’s for sure!

How lovely! Thanks for the tip on the snapdragons. I actually had some come back from last year, so I got a few more to add to them. Before this, I’ve never had any luck with them–had just about given up on getting them.

The dahlias are beautiful too. I’ve never had luck with those either. Maybe I’ll give them another try!

I am enjoying my garden so much this year. But I feel like I am learning things all over. So I am always half holding my breath that things might just up and die on me. I have had several casualties. I think its going to take a while to know where everything will grow just right. But reading your blog helps. I see that real gardeners just move a plant when it isn’t doing well.

Gardening really is all about trial and error. I moved my red hot pokers because they weren’t blooming and lost them all. Live and learn. After a while, established gardens will tell you what is supposed to go where and you end up with cool combinations you never thought of!

I only do dahlias as annuals. I have never had luck with those plants you dig up and store, so I just get new ones each year.

Beautiful garden Lori, I can totally understand that this relieves stress.

I feel bad for Pixie, she looks so sad. Isn’t there a possibility she gets outside on a leash or something?

We have a harness, but Pixie doesn’t like it very much. I do want to put up a catio (patio for cats) with a pet door in the window. They actually make pet doors that fit in window casements. Then I want to do a covered ramp from that to an enclosed pen outside. Totally over the top, I know, but we spoil our animals!

For me it’s not over the top. You know I love my dog as much as you love Pixie and I would do the same 🙂

She would go all over, I am sure. She was a stray when she came to us. I bet she would go over to the neighbors and put a beat down on their cats…

Lori your garden is really looking lovely…really growing into itself… How i miss those Lowe’s clearance racks….I ask for the location of the clearance racks around here at Lowe’s and Home Depo and no one knows what i’m talking about….very rarely do i find anything marked down like i did those plumbagos…..Isn’t it awesome when you SCORE something though?!

I think maybe when we get the back yard done and i have a patio out there i might take Jinx out in his halter and leash….maybe he’ll lay in the sun while i have my coffee in the morning?? 🙂 Hugs! deb

I need your green thumb (for real!) NONE of my budding flowers are blossoming. My plants are doing pretty well but I’m guessing that’s because they are resilient 🙁

Have a great weekend. Your garden is magnificent.

I’m sure that your garden relaxes you – just seeing all of your gorgeous pictures made me smile!! I’ve never been good at growing things but I love seeing them in other people’s yards/gardens.

My gardening skills are rather pitiful, but I agree, the work is stress-relieving!

And this post reminds me I need to go back to Lowe’s this week. They were loading up the clearance shelves the other day, but since I was headed for a pet-sitting weekend, I didn’t buy anything. Maybe Monday when I get home and have time to repot and waterwaterwater.

I am really “digging” your garden! LOL! So many beautiful blooms to look at. I am such a fan of snapdragons…I bet I say this every year, but I love to teach small children how to make the dragons snap! I will probably say it next year too.

I’m always happy for you when the blooming posts begin. You have to be so patient because of your long winters and just watch as blooming starts in other parts of the country. But it’s certainly worth the wait. At least for us!!!

Your house and garden are beautiful! I’ve never seen a coneflower like that! I think those might grow in Texas!
