Happy 4th and the menagerie!

Happy Independence Day, everyone!

I worked pretty much a full day today, but managed to squeeze in some fun!  We have had really hot and humid weather lately – and a perfect time for the AC to die, right?  Yeah.  Nothing like that unexpected expense, but we are now nice and cool again.  Anyway, I wanted to ride today since I haven’t been in a week! That meant an early ride before it got hot.

All set for a patriotic ride.  Red shirt, white legs. No blue, though.

It was hot already – and humid. Did I mention that?  Phew! Any time we stopped, I just dripped sweat. It felt much better to just never stop pedaling. Except for a snack:

Nice ride:

20 miles was good enough, especially with having to work still.

It’s been pretty crazy around here.  Between several appliances going on the fritz, and issues with my computer, we have also been pet sitting.  My sister’s family went to Disney (cue my extreme jealousy in 3…2…1 ).

Anyway, they have a pet sitter come in to take care of the dog, the turkeys and ducks.  However, little Phoenix is too young to be by himself for a week, so we are taking care of him.  Also, the pet sitter said she was afraid of birds, so we are watching the society finch as well.  He’s pretty scary, don’t you think?

He is 3 inches, maybe?  Seriously – not scary LOL! Pixie was uber pleased at this tasty snack that arrived:

I need to keep the door closed to the room or she will be all over the poor thing.

We also have Heather the snail:

She doesn’t do much, so that’s not a big deal.

Then there is Phoenix.  Of course, I cannot call any animal by its given name, so he has been dubbed Mr. Peanut.

Pixie has been better than I thought she would be.  She hisses a lot, but she isn’t beating on him.  He wants to play with her all the time though, and it annoys her to no end.  I keep him in a separate bedroom overnight or when we are out to keep them apart.

Phoenix gets into everything. He finds seltzer bubbles especially fascinating.

Tons of energy in such a tiny thing.  He is adorable when he sleeps:

He seems pretty unphased with our musical activity.

We have these guys through the weekend.

Hope you are having a great holiday weekend!  Or just a great weekend for non US people 😀

Pixie looking at the bird is pretty funny…A BIRD??? INSIDE MY HOUSE??! FOR ME, RIGHT?
(I have no idea why Pixie is yelling – she must be pretty excited)

The kitty is adorable. They are fun to watch play, and that’s hilarious that he’s walking on the piano like nothing is happening!

Pixie was quite excited about the bird, until Phoenix was brought in. Then not so excited LOL

Nice ride, especially with the heat and having to work.

You are a good sport, taking care of the menagerie! I’m not scared of birds, but that snail creeps me out. Seriously. And a kitten is just exhausting. SO CUTE, though! Pixie is a good sport to have her kingdom invaded without her permission LOL.

One time when we were kids, we pooled all our money and got my dad a canary for Christmas. The cat ate it before the day was over.

I don’t mind all the animal sitting. John is the real sport. I certainly put him through a lot 😀

At first I laughed about the canary, and then I felt bad. We don’t have birds now partly because they are just super messy, but also because of Pixie. We had parakeets and finches when we had our other cat, but she never bothered them. Pixie is way too interested.

My husband and I are childless (awful word) but we have three cats, a dog and two frogs. I love pets but am so not crazy about birds, LOL. I’m going to have to side with the pet sitter on this one. They’re just so…..beaky. XD

Huh my first comment went to a wrong place!

I had no idea people kept snails!! That is perhaps the one pet I could actually have, but it’s not soft and furry….and probably not too smart either. sad

Phoenix is super adorable, I loved the picture of him peeking into selzer and sleeping on your leg rest. He must wonder why Pixie doesn’t want to play with him though.. happy

I just checked my bike yesterday. I might want to take it to a longer ride some day.

The snail was really an accidental ‘pet’. It was unknowingly brought home on some foliage from far away and can’t really be put outside in this area because it doesn’t belong and don’t want to risk introducing it.

Lori , Lori, Lori i’m not envying you right now..You are such a good sport! I don’t know what Jinx would do with a kitten…he can be a pretty tough customer…I’d be afraid he’d hurt it.
Birds…..my love affair with birds is long over. lol… I used to have society finches…just too darn messy
Heather the snail…how cute..Love her shell..she’s a beauty! We have tons of snails here. I remember we received a shipment of tropical plants in at the Garden Center where i worked and it had a HUGE frog in it and somebody took it home….
I can think of no better way to enjoy the 4th than with a bike ride! Hugs! deb

That is a lot of animals!! I love the cat drinking from the glass and the cat in the piano – fun stuff!

AWWWWW….so many adorable animal shots! (LOL that you named your snail!!!) Phoenix (aka: Mr. Peanut) looks angelic in the shot where he is asleep. He also looks a little like grumpy cat! Hang in there Pixie, it’s only for a short time, then you’ll be on your own again!! Have a great Friday Lori!

OH MY Lori! So much going on for you!!!! Isn’t it always the AC to crap out when it gets hotter than hell! UGH! Glad you got it fixed…. Mr. Peanut is adorable!!!!! I love all the pics & glad Pixie is hanging in there in her own domain! 😉

Hope things ease up for you!!!!

OH, I know you saw my blog today. Can you believe I am still using your recipe! 🙂 I am going to try the original one to make cookies with my Designer Whey powder! 🙂

Lots of friends in the house! I have a soft spot for snails…Heather is just adorable. Of course, Pixie and Phoenix are too cute for words and the birdie is sweet too.

Hey Lori! Just catching up after coming back from vacation – I am glad that you said maintaining is just as hard as losing the weight, but I never thought of the fact that after time passes, no one keeps telling you how good you look because its the new normal.

We have only turned our central air on twice this whole summer – crazy for it already being July 5!

    Enjoy your weekend!

You are a really good sport of a sister…bet she’d do exactly the same for you! And by the way, we are not child”less,” we are child,”free!”

  12. Heidi

Mr. Peanut/Phoenix is so cute during his catnap! He looks like he will grow up to be Grumpy Cat with his markings 🙂

  13. Fran

That last pic is too funny. He looks at John like he’s saying “no more please” LOL.
What a cute little cat. Glad that Pixie is accepting him. It’s Monday here: bird still alive or did Pixie get her snack eventually?

Seeing the dried pineapple: I thought of you when I saw they sold dried fruits at the supermarket. I bought it and tried it Saturday: very tasty.
