Rain and more rain

I don’t really want to keep grousing about the weather, but enough with the rain already!  It’s crazy!  In trying to be positive, I will say that the garden is pretty happy about getting some rain every day, although a few of the plants are toppled over because of hard rain.

The other thing about the rain is that it isn’t all day rain, but comes and goes.  So, I have still been able to sneak in bike rides, mostly in the morning to avoid the sticky humidity.

We were able to ride for breakfast this morning.  It was a bit of a hard ride.  The weather I feel the worst in is when it isn’t really hot, but really humid.  Like this morning.  Low 70s and so, so humid and I just had no energy.

Of course, note who had hot coffee with her breakfast.   😳  John was smart and got a cold drink.

I am having to really get a better handle on eating.  This is the time of year where my intake gets all whackadoodle because of all my biking.  I find it really hard to balance calories in and out without overeating on the days off of biking or with short rides.  On the days of long rides I have trouble sometimes getting in enough because my appetite goes down on those days.  That sounds like a good thing, but it makes the other days a bit of a struggle – and I don’t need a lot of nudging in that direction to overeat.

Now I have to really plan my food and be conscious of the snacking a lot more.  That’s another of my July goals (which I didn’t get put on the blog because the first of the month was all busy with BOW and AIM).

I have been drinking more protein shakes for lunch because of the heat.  Today’s drink (and yesterday’s) was unsweetened vanilla almond milk, unflavored whey protein (15 grams), peanut flour (15 grams), cinnamon and 1 teaspoon of honey.

This tastes like a peanut butter shake! Along with a bowl of blueberries on the side.  I have been a fruit machine lately, too 😀

We had the AC on and it was raining out – surprise, surprise – so I decided to go with a latte in the afternoon.  Since I was hungry, I also had a larabar.

The cappuccino was a new flavor to me, but I have to say that I didn’t notice much in the way of coffee flavor.  Still like the  date/cashew combo, though.  My favorite larabar is the coconut cream.  You know, I can make these at home as I always have dates on hand, but sometimes it is just easier to have someone else make them.  <——– Lazy.

I got worked finished up right at 5:00 on the dot today, which was really nice.  Love those days!  The rain stopped, so I grilled up a bunch of chicken for the week.

I used a Grillmates marinade – mesquite.  That’s my favorite flavor.

Can I tell you how happy Pixie has been since Phoenix went home?  No more of this:

She is happy and relaxed again and very playful.

Such a lady…

We are off for froyo tonight – or at least somewhere to get out of the house.  Our cars haven’t moved since Sunday!

Your garden looks beautiful! What are those pretty orange flowers in the front?

Maybe I’ll get industrious and get my grill cleaned up and use it this summer. Your chicken looks so delicious.

Last picture of Pixie–hilarious. Someone can finally relax. Is it wrong that I can relate??

Those are butterfly weed (asclepis?? or something like that).

I totally relate to Pixie as well. At least when I lay like that nobody is taking my picture LOL!

    ROFL…..love the picture of Pixie!

Also…I always enjoy the pictures of your dinner. You are my hero for eating all that broccoli! I need to learn to portion my dinner plate out like that. Simple, but so healthy!

Love the garden and the photo of Pixie relaxing is adorable. We had the humidity you speak of a couple of days ago, and I think it moved east toward you. The weather is a bit better here now, so maybe it’s headed your way.

    Your garden is beautiful!!
We could do with a little of that rain- we had lots of rain the end of May and early June and then nothing in a month!!!

I know exactly what you mean on the weather. It has rained almost everyday here. Even when I manage to get out on a walk or bike ride before the rain it’s so humid that I’m just wilting!!

Gosh I love all of your flowers, you have such a green thumb! The terrible heat wave we had last week really did a number on all of my potted patio plants. I am trying to nurse them back to good health. What fertilizer do you use on your flower beds?

    1. Lori Post author

I actually don’t use fertilizer on the beds. I just have added some compost to the bed over the years and keep it mulched. I used to use Miracle Grow, but a couple years ago my hose nozzles got corroded onto the hose and I can’t switch out to the MG feeder nozzle so I haven’t used it since then. 😀

Humidity sucks, it’s the one thing of the weather I can’t handle very well. Luckily we are having great weather at the moment (except for yesterday and today: cloudy but it’s dry).

When I did the long runs training for a half I noticed I wasn’t hungry on those days either. But I was the day after, like you. When I don’t work I often don’t eat till lunch these days. Not good but I’m doing more things concerning food wrong at the moment. Working on a plan because my IBS is worse than ever. I need to make changes!

Pixie is indeed very ladylike in that pose LOL. She’s so cute.

I love the Pixie photos. The first is super funny and the second one is adorable. I had no idea how long Pixie is when she stretches herself like that. I assume she is asking for belly rubs in the second photo? 🙂

I serviced my bike and am ready to hop on the saddle tomorrow. I hope it doesn’t rain. Reading your blog must’ve influenced me…. 🙂

The humidity broke for us yesterday so hopefully you’ll get some relief today or tomorrow!! It’s feeling great out right now and I hope it sticks around.

I saw some new Larabar Uber flavors in the store: sticky bun and a coconut macadamia. Can’t eat them yet but they are in the cupboard. I’e always liked them.

I wish I had your green thumb Lori – everything comes to my house to die! Pixie is happy again!! It was funny because I haven’t had a bagel in ages, and yesterday I had half of one and thought “its bagel Wednesday! I wonder if Lori is having a bagel today!”

I’ve thought about making my own Larabars as I’m sure it would be cost effective, but they are one thing with few ingredients and only contain the exact same things I’d be using if I made them, so decided to just treat myself. If I watch for sales, I can find them for .89 each and not sure I could make them that cheap. Let me know if you ever do and how the homemade ones turn out. P.S. Way too much rain here and we’re looking at more this evening.

I have made them before, but more to put protein powder in them to make them more balanced for me.
