Pixie’s new bed

It’s all about the fall now! If you didn’t know it was fall, a quick look at Pinterest would tell you that.  😀

Out comes the candy corn bowl for pumpkin oats!

Anyway, I got Pixie’s bed finished.  The cost?  $4!   The bed started as a drawer.  John was going to throw away these 2 drawers, but I rescued them and made one into a shelf (painted white).  The other one I made into Pixie’s bed.

The only thing I needed to buy was a can of spray paint, the aforementioned $4 – or really $3 and change:

Yep – it’s pink!

Pixie’s trial run of said bed:

Okay, I find this suitable

On Sunday, it was out to my ‘workshop’ to paint:

Since the drawer has a front panel, it doesn’t fit flush to the ground, so John cut me a couple small feet to glue on to balance it out:

While all that was drying, it was time to contemplate the cushion.  I poked around some boxes and found a wad of cotton batting.  Do you ever find something and think, “Why the hell do we even have this??”  That was me, but this stuff was perfect.

Of course, Pixie had to check out the progress and then proceeded to bite pieces off it.

I measured the inside of the box and folded up pieces of batting to make a rectangle. Then taped the pieces together.

Tucked the batting into an old pillow case that we never use anymore.

Then I wrapped some fabric around it so that I can remove it easily to wash.  This bit of fabric I have had for over 20 years. I always lined the cat carrier with it for our old cat, Chloe, and then used it for Pixie.  Voila – her new bed.

Turns out I think it is softer than she would like and I put that white towel on top of the cushion and she seems to like that better.

Pixie girl

(I know, she is being all adorable for you).

Although, she still really seems to like *this* better…

Heat-seeking mode fully operational now that fall is here!

very cute, with lots of layers (Princess and the Pea?) 🙂

(that looks like my beloved Boston Acoustics speakers behind Pixie. One of mine died, sadly. )

I’m not a cat person but I have to admit – there’s something about that Pixie! Oh and you must just be loving this football season 🙂

Pixie does have that way about her.

We are very pleased with football so far. It’s hard not to get overexcited, since there still is a long way to go!

Great job on Pixie’s bed: it’s lovely!

Bella and Pixie are the same: they have a great bed of their own but nothing beats the lap op Mommy 🙂

Pixie is all about body heat and staying warm. When I get my heated fleece blanket out, I can barely sit down before she has jumped up to get on my lap 😀

How clever of you! I found a new bed for they pugs on sale cheap, so I happily abandoned my plans to make one. It does crack ne up that pixie is enjoying the bed thar much!

You are so crafty and clever. I actually think I’m too lazy to attempt that sort of stuff, even though I love the way homemade things come out!

Aah, my eye rests on all the Pixie photos. It’s only natural she prefers human laps to her pink drawer – they come with heating after all… 😛

That is such a great idea Lori! Love it! Jinx is in sun seeking
mode also. So funny … any other time you look at him and he is
a totally black cat with gold eyes. When he lays in the sun his
under coat is red and it looks so cool. You’ll have to let us know if
Pixie spends more time in the bed or on your lap this winter! I know!
Put the bed in the sun!!! Hugs! deb

Love Pixie’s new bed, and all the photos of Pixie! We used a plastic bin with thick foam and a fleece blanket for Elsie…plus a little heating pad set on low buried below the blanket, since her nighttime bed was in the garage.

I know it’s Fall when I see pictures of the candy corn dish! 🙂

AWWWWWWWWW!!!!! Lucky, lucky Pixie!!!! A new special bed for a very special kitty!! Neva is like Pixie in that if something is TOO soft, she rejects it (aka: sits right beside it and glares at me like I’ve violated her feline rights) but will be perfectly happy is something with more support – like Pixie’s towel. Have a wonderful Thursday Lori.
