October goals

I never did any goals for September because the month started off with me out of town and then I was slammed busy for a week.ย  However, a new month as begun and a new set of goals!

But first, an update on Pixie’s new bed – she loves the bed.ย  However, I think she didn’t like the pillow I put in it, so I took that out and left just the towel in there and she seems much happier.ย  I took the pillow and put it on her usual perch by the window.ย  Now she loves that, too!

She now uses both beds and seems supremely happy, which makes me happy ๐Ÿ˜€

On to October goals!

  1. Try at least one new recipe a week.ย  This will help me plan meals a little better and get out of the rut I am in.ย  I sometimes have the same thing for dinner 3 days in a row (and it isn’t leftovers!).
  2. Make a list of all the things to do around the house and actually do some of them.ย  There are all those little projects that get neglected, like wiping down cupboards, neatening the closet, depapering the table, etc., that just hasn’t been getting done.
  3. Curb snacking.ย  This one is starting to get away from me, so need to be more aware.
  4. The return of the Pink Picture!ย  To promote awareness for breast cancer this month, I will post a picture of something pink whenever I do a post (except a recipe post because the pink picture doesn’t make sense in the archives). Along with the picture will be the link to click to help promote free mammograms.

That ought to keep me busy.

To be filed under just another little thing that made me happy:

I broke a string on my guitar a couple weeks ago and put in a replacement. Turns out I hate that brand of string.ย  It buzzed and sounded yucky and was irritating me when I practiced. So I ordered some new strings.ย  The annoying thing with strings is that I can’t just get a single string and have to purchase a whole set. If only I broke a different string each time, but I tend to break the same onesย  (E, A and B) and I have a few partial sets now.ย  Anyone need a G string?ย  :mrgreen:ย ย  Anyway, I digress.ย  Yesterday came my new strings and I love the replacement.

I am tempted to do all rest of the strings, but stringing is a pain in the ass. Hopefully these will last as advertised. I am going to have to make another video before the end of the year.ย  Maybe a Christmas tune?

Today’s pink picture?ย  It has to be Pixie’s new bed, right?

Oh – I love the pink every day for the month!!! I have lost several friends to breast cancer and this is a cause that I try to do as much as I can to support!
I didn’t know that in addition to being a biker and gardner extraordinaire you were also a guitar player. My husband plays the guitar – not as much as he should probably but he is pretty good.
And – I know that with your love of gardening you might appreciate this – we have a new tenant (there are 3 apartments above our event venue) and when she signed her lease she asked me who did the gardening (I have pulled weeds and that is it) – she WANTS to do it!!! Maybe one day I can post a picture and you will recognize some of the flowers.

That is such a funny picture of Pixie – she looks like she’s celebrating having TWO beds!

I like to make lists of things I need to do around the house, and of course, crossing them off when I’m done. And, if I come across something that needs doing that isn’t on the list and do it, I sometimes add it to the list so I can cross it off right away. Weirdly satisfying. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. debby

LOL at Shelley’s weirdly satisfying list-crossing-off. I agree.

And this wiping down cupboard thing that you speak of–is that a weekly or monthly or yearly event??

LOVE Pixie’s expression. She is clearly saying that she can’t believe it took you so long to realize that she needed TWO beds.

Agreed. Changing strings is a pain in the butt.

And lastly, I look forward to your new recipes. Even if I don’t try them, I always learn something from you.

The cupboard wiping down happens when I go to wipe up a coffee spill and notice how many other drips and dribbles are on the cupboards! They are white, too, so it shows. Lucky if I do it once a year, though. ๐Ÿ˜€

I just have to say how much I appreciate you doing the pink pictures every month. I lost my grandmother to cancer in 2001. She originally had breast cancer, beat it, and it later came back as lung cancer. This is something we are avidly aware of in our family and it touches my heart to see others supporting this issue!

  5. Pubsgal

Yeay! Thanks for the pink pictures and for supporting breast cancer awareness & prevention. Not to mention Pixie pictures – can’t have too many of those! She sure loves her new beds!

And happy anniversary to you & John! Wishing you many more happy years of cycling, cupcakes, and loving companionship! ๐Ÿ™‚

That is one happy cat! I love it when we can make our animals happy with just small things. Like you, it makes me happy too.

Love your goals, number 1 is something I try to do every week too, lately I’m doing pretty good with that. Number 2 is that I do have that list but now I have to do it ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s to a great month for the both of us.

Is that Pixie yawning? If the cat is happy, everybody is happy! ๐Ÿ™‚

I too have a new set of resolutions for October. I intend learn to exercise smarter and try something new etc. I should also organize my kitchen drawers because I never got that far in September…

Yes, she is yawning. I was trying to get a picture of her sleeping, but she woke up when I walked over and yawned!

PIXIE!!! That pic is so funny & glad she likes her new resting places! I bet she still goes for your lap too though!

I look forward to another guitar video from you! I love how you feel the song when you play!

Thx as always for the pink month!

    Great goals as usual!

I totally get the meal rut thing as I always feel like I’m in a meal rut two times a year: at the end of summer/fall and again at the end of winter/spring. I think we just grill a lot in the summer and I crockpot/do oven roasts, etc. a lot in the winter. I did try to crockpot a bit this summer and it helped with meal boredom.

Also think the season change prompts those to-do lists. My mom says it’s because the light in your house changes and exposes messes you didn’t realize were there. She may have a point lol!

    1. Lori Post author

Yes, the light change is highlighting dirt! Especially coming in at an angle through the windows. It’s embarrassing!

AWWWW….little Pixie. Such a happy and lucky girl!!! Love the yawn shot! Her little tongue could be your secondary pink picture! ๐Ÿ™‚ Great October goals, I know you’ll meet them all!!

  11. Cammy@TippyToeDiet

I’m a list-maker, too! Some items have been lingering for a long time (mostly the ones that cost a lot), but a few really need to get done soon.

Love the Pixie action yawn! ๐Ÿ™‚
