2500 Miles!

Yippee!Β  I finally reached 2500 miles!Β  The first ride of the year was March 10th and I hit 2500 on November 16th.

2500 miles

I wasn’t planning on hitting that Saturday, but it turns out that Sunday ended up rainy and there was no biking – so I am glad I did. Saturday was gorgeous! I still was bundled up because it was in the 50s.

I actually ended up a bit over 2500 on the day:

Some fun stats.

Equivalent miles of running – Approximately 834

Calories burned – 75,060, give or take a few thousand

Pounds not gained due to calorie burn- 21

Pounds lost during the season –Β  ZeroΒ  πŸ˜€Β  I just don’t lose during biking season.

Flat tires – Only 1!Β  Remember the year of the flat tire a couple years ago? I replaced the tires with Gatorskins and that was so worth it. Those tires cost more, but overall less than all the tubes I had to buy from all the flats.

Distance traveled – Albany to Los Angeles is 2457 miles, so pretty much across the US! Of course, that is air miles, so I guess I need a flying bicycle.

Last year’s total road miles – 2174

Things that contributed to the success of this goal:

The weather.Β  We actually had somewhat of a wet summer, but there didn’t seem to be days on end where it would rain, so I was able to sneak in rides here and there.

No injuries, or least nothing that kept me from cycling.

My job.Β  Having the ability to flex my schedule allowed me to get in those rides when the weather was right.

Deciding to commit to the goal.Β  That meant always planning out how many miles I wanted in a week and checking the long range weather to plan when I was going to ride.

How about a collage of some of the treats I had while riding this year?

So what’s next?Β  I am not ready to bring the bike in for the year yet. There may be another nice weekend this month. I have never ridden into December, so that is probably very unlikely, but I did ride Thanksgiving weekend last year.

WooHoo – I knew you would get that goal!! Pretty amazing because even though it is for 2013 it really is only 8 months from the time you started till now – you are AWESOME!!

Thanks Kim! I complain about the short biking season, but 8 months isn’t that bad. Those other 4 months feel pretty cold, though πŸ˜€

How fun fun fun!!! And the most impressive stat–you essentially rode across the United States of America! Just unbelievable! Pretty funny that the “no weight loss” and the cavalcade of treats was in there too!

    Totally inspirational Lori!

WOOHOO!!! Congratulations – that is a lot of miles to ride!!! Loved your treat collage – hey, it’s part of the event of biking such long distances like you did. Also I’m so happy for you that your flat tire craziness is over…who knew there was such a difference in bike tires?!

Those tires were pricey, but so worth it. I would get them again in a heartbeat – and I need to start thinking about it since I put so many miles on this pair!

Yipppppeeee!!! Congratulations on getting your 2500 miles in!

Love the treats collage…you earned every luscious bite!

    What’s up for next year?

    Yabbadabbadoooooooooooooooooo YOU DID IT!

I knew you would but nevertheless: congrats on a fantastic job! And thank you for taking us on each and every one of these bike rides this year. I have enjoyed them all. Here’s to next year: another great biking year (already thinking about a new goal?)

Forgot: you can’t ski in Holland. Our country is mostly flat, we do have some parts with hills but not high enough for skiing. Besides that (besides the past 2 years) we hardly ever get snow here (fingers are already crossed we won’t get any this Winter πŸ™‚ )

Congratulations!!! And what a lovely spot to hit 2500. The year isn’t over, either. How many more do you think you can milk out of the weather??

As I was getting close to the roll over, I made sure my route took me back onto the path for a nice picture LOL! I think there may be another day or two of biking before the end of November. You just never know. If I can squeak in another 30 miles, I would be happy.

Super awesome & major kudos! I knew you’d get there and I’ve been excitedly waiting for you to hit 2500. I was hoping you’d get a nice day and wouldn’t be slogging in the rain or sleet to make your goal. I’m thrilled the weather cooperated for you!

I think dedication to the goal is the noteworthy nugget here. How often do we set ambitious and lofty goals but don’t see them through and get the benefit of the elation and pride when we accomplish what we set out to do!

    Congratulations Lori!

Congratulations, I knew you’d do it! You and John should do a cross-country bike ride one of these days. I read a lot of journals from those who do and it seems like an amazing experience. Maybe a retirement goal when you have more time!

Love the part about how many running miles that is equivalent to – and hooray for only 1 flat! Yep, I remember the summer of flat tires, hopefully that is behind you!

    1. Lori Post author

It is fun to compare the different sports. A mile of running is approximately equivalent to 3 to 3.5 miles of biking.

When you set that goal, I remember having the thought that only illness or injury would keep you from it – hurray for being free of all that!!

Though you credit working from home, you still had to work AT the goal which is a huge thing Lori. I know you’re proud and you should be!
