Repotting orchids and snow

Doing the Friday dance!  I will be working some this weekend, but that’s okay.  We won’t be going anywhere with the storm that’s coming.

Smack in the middle of the 6 to 12 range, and from reports it sounds more like the upper end of that is likely. But maybe they will be wrong and this won’t be much. Right? 😯

Brekkie today was the banana breakfast bread pudding.  I haven’t had that in a while!  Our toaster oven is broken and I don’t like to turn on the oven just for this, but I wanted it.

Topped with some Nutella – or store brand knockoff Nutella.

Busy work day today. Unlike yesterday, which was really slow.  A lot of doctors are on vacation and fewer people seeing doctors during the holiday craziness.  It will be like this for the rest of the year, so I will be flexing my hours around a lot to make sure I get enough work.

Lunch time! I had some venison chili over a baked potato and laughing cow.  This was pretty good, although I prefer my BBQ ground turkey for this.

John and I played some hooky this afternoon and got some coffee while running an errand.

That may or may not have been an eggnog latte.

Dinner up next!  It’s the parade of food post today.  This was a Morningstar Chick’n patty with laughing cow and hot sauce.  I used to eat these all the time and then stopped.  Now John has been eating them and so they are in the freezer and easy to make.

So the errand today was to pick up an orchid pot.  I had bought that bargain orchid at Lowe’s last spring and it is still alive!  A week or so ago, I saw a tiny orchid in a mesh bag on sale for $1 at Lowe’s. Like John said, that would be a good return on investment of $1 if this orchid lives.  😀

I took it out of the mesh bag, watered it and fed it and it opened up to look like this, so it seems viable. However, it did need repotting. So, I decided to buy a new pot for the bigger one and just switch.

Are you tired of seeing this ugly counter yet? I am.

I bought special potting stuff for the orchids and soaked it.

This looks so alien, doesn’t it??

I trimmed off any dead roots. All repotted and hopefully happy. So my $1 orchid cost a little bit more, unless I consider the money spent only for my original orchid, but who’s counting?

Table work this weekend. We have to grocery shop tomorrow morning, probably along with everyone else 🙄  , and then I can spend the weekend sanding and staining the table, and shoveling – unless I use my back as an excuse to get out of that.

I’ve always been a weather watcher (the day the Weather Channel launched was a happy day for me!), and it’s fun to check out the weather where my blog friends are. So I knew that storm was coming. I know you get really tired of it by February, but isn’t there just a tiny bit of excitement over the first couple of snows each year? Especially when you don’t have to go anywhere! Enjoy! We are in Nashville for my niece’s wedding and all we are getting is RAIN, RAIN, RAIN!

I think I would rather ease into the snow than get a big wallop all at once, but you can’t force Mother Nature 😀

I made myself go grocery shopping after work last night – blech! But now it’s done and I can stay home the rest of the weekend should the snow dictate that.

I think you’ve gotten a great return on your orchid already. It will be fun to see if the new one survives. Oh, and I vote that it WAS an eggnog latte!

We shopped early too and it is a good thing as there is no going out today. I am going to read, drink tea, and watch the snow fall!

I hope the orchid likes its new home!

Congrats on the footballs picks and your winning dinner certainly looked like a winner.

    Good luck this weekend!

Oh it will be very interesting to see if your orchids bloom! I’m going to make Cammy’s lentil chili tomorrow, and having some of it over a baked potato sound yumm!

Hope you got out of shoveling. I think your back is a very good excuse!

I have seen the snow you had on FB and I’m so NOT jealous 🙂 Can you believe it was 46 degrees here this morning? It almost felt like Spring. If I can sign up somewhere for this weather the rest of this Winter I’m in.

I have an appointment in the hospital tomorrow, it’s just an intake but I hope that if I need examination after that I can get an appointment before the end of this year because it’s vacation time. But I guess I won’t be so lucky and have to wait till January.

I love orchids but as soon as they don’t bloom anymore I throw them away and buy a new one. I don’t have the patience to wait till it blooms again.
