Dryer parts and circuit workout

I am so bummed about this really cold spell. I think I am turning into a winter wimp!  At least we aren’t going to get the big snow from this one.  Pixie really doesn’t understand how good she has it all warm inside.

She also has no idea what is in store with a new home for her!  On that front, our closing is delayed. Being as this is a bank owned home, I am not all that surprised about a delay.  We are all set on our end, so all we can do is wait. I sort of feel like we are an airplane circling around the runway waiting for permission to land and get things moving.  We have a trip planned in less than 3 weeks, so hopefully closing will happen before that.

So, you all know that I am a handy ma’am, right?  I do pretty much everything or try to figure it out. However, appliances aren’t my thing.  Our dryer conked out last fall and John put in a new heating element and got it going again. I was a happy camper. Then not too long ago, it started making a terrible banging noise when we ran it.  It was so loud that it was interrupting my work even though the dryer is on the other side of the house. It still dried the clothes, though.  Then last week it stopped getting hot and drying the clothes.  Sigh. We were going to buy new appliances when we move and leave the old ones here.  The object is not to buy a new one now and have to move it, but I am not going to go without a dryer for a couple months.  First world problem, yes, but I don’t care.  Anyway, John decided to actually take the dryer apart to see if we could get this one running again.  Have you ever seen the inside of a dryer?

I just clean the lint trap on it and that’s about it.   Anyway, the rollers inside were all misshapen, which is what was causing the banging.  So, John got online and ordered some new ones and a new heating element (turns out it was the temperature sensor and not the element, but whatever).  Those parts came today and John fixed the dryer!

We now have a quiet, working dryer!  Of course, this will be left behind, but at least we will leave a working one behind and I don’t have to string clothes up all over the house to dry. I have to say that I am super impressed with his skills.  We make a really good home repair/renovation team.  I need to get him to do house flips with me, which he is not interested in…

I took him out for a couple slices of pizza for dinner as a reward, too.

Anyway, today I did a circuit workout. I haven’t posted a workout in eons, so thought you might like to see one again.  I used the Bowflex and dumbbells for this.

Exercise Set/reps
Squats 3 sets of 10
Seated lat row 3 sets of 10
Incline Chest Press 3 sets of 10
Good Mornings 3 sets of 10
Arnold Press 3 sets of 10
Triceps Kickbacks 3 sets of 10
Reverse Crunches 3 sets of 10
Low Back Extension 3 sets of 10

I interspersed 5 minutes segments on the bike between a few sets. It’s so cold, though, that I barely even broke a sweat by the time I was done!

Will it be spring soon?  Oh wait, it’s still January…

Wow – way to go, John!! I’m fortunate that Chris is good at fixing things and I don’t find using the drill or whatever when he is gone!!
We have a Bowflex which I rarely ever use – maybe I will give your circuit a try!!!

John looks quite please with himself, as well he should be! I liken getting a major appliance back to working to putting one over on the Maytag Repairman, lol.

Not to make you jealous or something but I’ve seen the first signs of springs in flowers here already which is crazy: it’s too early for that. We are having such a mild winter. It’s funny that I was texting with my friend K. this morning and she asked if I was as happy as she was that we are having no snow so far. We both hate that 🙂

I do all the cleaning/cooking/grocery shopping in our house so R. is responsible for maintenance. Think he would have tried to repair it himself first too. Saves so much money.

John and I both do all the things. We both shop and clean. We both do repairs and such. Works out pretty well.

I wish I was a handy ma’am! 😀 And I am dreaming of spring too – this morning was 4 degrees when I left the house and its snowing again. 🙁

ooohhh I hope his pizza treat was to I heart NY pizza… one of my favorite treats. 2 slices with a drink for $5 can’t go wrong.
I am a lucky girl in the appliance department, even though my husband retired as a Navy hospital corpsman, he did a stint at an appliance sales and repair shop all during his high school years. At least they haven’t progressed with time, as computers, Lol.

I hope you do get to close on your new house in due time, you must be aweful patient. But soon it will be Spring and maybe then it will be refreshing and motivating to do your renovations. Better to stay put with Pixie and enjoy looking out into the sunshine, it is deceiving.

Wow, between you and John, you guys have the whole house covered! I just look helplessly at a broken appliance, sigh loudly, and head out to the appliance store.

Good going on the circuit workout, especially in the cold!

Way to go on the appliance repair vs. replacement – that would have stunk to have to buy something just to leave it behind. I’m fortunate that my husband is very appliance saavy as well, plus he spent several years as a plumbing apprentice. I keep saying as soon as he finishes his automotive course and learns to cut hair, I’ll have it made!

Good luck on the house closing – waiting on banks to get their act in gear is NO FUN 🙁

Pixie love! She looks so adorable and fluffy in the picture. :-)I wonder how she’s going to like the new house. At least there will be lots of room for her to hide…

Yay for circuit lifting. We have cold here too and I wear two shirts when I work out! I want my muscles to be properly warmed up.

I think she is going to like the radiators by the windows. She has never been in another place, so we are curious as to how she will handle the move. I am sure it will be pretty stressful on her, but animals can adapt pretty well.

Dang! Once again I wish we were neighbors. You guys are so resourceful!!

My stupid dryer started making a weird noise this morning and all I can think about is how much it’s gonna suck getting it out of it’s tight space and our tiny family room.

Are you in another arctic plunge like us? No temps above 20 until the weekend and nighttime temps so cold it makes me wanna cry just looking at them…

I wish we could see into the teens for temps – that is how cold it is here. It was below zero this morning and only about 8 degrees outside now. Wahhh!!!
