Back is good!

Does it feel like Friday to anyone else? I had one of those really disoriented days where I woke up and had absolutely no idea what day it was.

Here is a shot of the breakfast I have been eating a lot of lately. The banana custard oats.

Nice and filling in the tummy on these cold mornings 😀

Today’s lifting

Exercise Set/rep/weight
Plank 3 holds at 45 seconds (increased)
Prone Cobra 3 sets of 45 second holds
Lateral raise with external rotation 3 sets of 10 with 5# DBs
Overhead Squat 3 sets of 10 with 20# bar (increased)
Single Leg/Single arm Romanian deadlift 3 sets of 10 with 15# DB
Single arm cable lat pulldown 3 sets of 10 at 20#
Bulgarian Split Squat (video)  3 sets of 10 with body weight
High Cable Row 3 sets of 10 at 50# (increased)

You know, I don’t want to jinx anything, but I was noticing the last day or so that my back feels normal again for the first time since early December!  I had the bad injury and then the smaller flares that happened in January. Then the day we got back from our vacation going to the car, I lifted my suitcase and tweaked it again. I was about ready to cry.  Anyway, it has been months since it has felt this good and I think it probably has to do with my new lifting and stretching routines I have been doing. All the little things that have been happening like jogging up the stairs instead of taking them one at a time, not grunting when sitting down or standing up, not feeling pain rolling over in bed.  It’s awesome!  Whatever the reason is for feeling good, I will take it.  When things feel good, it makes you realize how chronic pain sucks.

Life’s been pretty much the usual lately, which is not a bad thing. I have been mostly 90/10, maybe 85/15, so it’s all good right now. Finally finished up the last of the chili I made the other day. This was on top of a baked potato. The veggies are a shredded cabbage mix sauteed in coconut oil.  Just for something different. I was going to crumble some corn tortilla chips on this, but then I ate them while cooking. 😳

Staying in and bundled up tonight with more ridiculous below zero temps. Thank goodness for flannel 😀

So happy to hear about your back. You know I know what you mean. The rolling over in bed is what really gets to me. I am going to try harder to do my stretches!

Yes, today felt like Friday to me. So now I will have to keep reminding myself that tomorrow is Friday, so I won’t forget that I have an important appointment on Saturday!

And yes, below zero is totally ridiculous. I guess you don’t want to hear that I had to turn my air conditioning on while I was driving home today. But don’t worry, I had to hurry to bring in some firewood to warm the house up tonight!

This is a big reminder to keep doing the stretches. You just get lazy sometimes, know what I mean?

So happy to hear your back is good right now. It looks like you passed it over to me because my lower back is bothering me since last weekend. But I know it will go away, usually it’s a result of moving not enough and am working on that this week.

Well I did know yesterday was Thursday but this morning we both seem to think it was Saturday because we both overslept 🙂

I always get your posts in my email box a day late, so I was so confused when I read your first line! It feels like Friday because it IS Friday 🙂 LOL

Ah…chronic pain. You are so right. When things feel good, you realize just how much pain sucks. Glad your back is feeling better. Fingers crossed it stays that way AND the cold goes away soon AND you can ride your bike this month 🙂

It definitely feels like Friday to me – because it is LOL! (Thank you baby Jesus because it’s been a helluva week.)

Great news about your back. Chronic back pain sucks no two ways about it.

Are you guys getting the “warm up” this weekend. I mean, 40-something is almost double what we’ve been having during the day so I expect to see many runners in shorts tomorrow morning 🙂

Jogging up the stairs? Hmmm, think I’ll add that to my “Potential joys if I keep following this track” list. So glad you’re back is behaving. The weird thing with chronic pain is that although you are distinctly aware of it, often you don’t realize the subtle ways it impacts your life and mood until it’s gone. Hope it’s gone, gone, gone for good!

Very true on impacting your life. It probably is not gone for good, but I will take the pain holiday for as long as it lasts!

I definitely think the strength training is helping your back – good news! We will have temps near 40 today – I almost wore capri pants to work!

Wanting warmer weather so bad…I was on the treadmill in front of the window last evening gazing longingly (word?) out at the deceptive sunshine. So I hopped off and ran two loops around our development. Boy were my legs feeling it. My husband came home from getting a haircut, pulled the car along side of me and said,”do you know it is only 17* out here”?. Made it back to the treadmill for another 30 minutes just to warm my poor muscles up. You can bet if we do reach those 40’s I will be outside dodging wet spots on the road in case of ice.

So happy to hear your back is doing well with the stretching and lifting. It must be aweful to have those flare ups, you must be doing exactly what your back needed to feel better 🙂

    Happy weekend!
