Riding and Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Such a nice weekend!  Saturday started with rain, but then it got nice and I got so much done!  This was the first weekend in many weeks where I didn’t work on at least one of the days. Having 2 days off was a real treat.  I got working on some painting projects, including doing my great grandmother’s table!

Before:

I made my own version of chalk paint to paint it in a linen color and did a transfer on it.  I can do a tutorial on this if you want. It was easy and came out cool.

I coated it with satin polyurethane for protection and now it will be by my side again as my table during work!

Sunday morning was ride time! This was our first breakfast ride of the year, can you believe it?

This is the Hudson:

This is the husband!

What an amazing sky, right? We stopped at Coffee Planet for breakfast!

After lounging for a while, we continued on our ride.  We decided to mark how far it was to bike to Radiance Manor from there.  Turns out it is exactly 1 mile! Totally walkable to come downtown as well.  We creeped around the property just to make sure it was okay and so I could see what was happening in the back yard.

You know this is killing me.

Want to see something kind of sad?  This was written on the back of the house:

I feel bad for the family that had so much trouble here.

Did I mention this house is 95 years old?  This is an old milk chute.

There is a similar door on the inside of the house.  From the inside, you would put your empty milk bottles inside the compartment and the milkman would be able to get them from the outside and replace with fresh milk. How times have changed.

This waiting is so hard. Ugh!  Anyway, we had more riding to do.  We took a turn down a side street near the path that we have never been and came upon a treat!

This is Glen Lake.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a place on the water here? No tourists!

Definitely a great day for a ride and we got in over 23 miles.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!  We took out my mom for a nice casual dinner at The Spot.

Very beautiful evening as well.

I really enjoyed your ride photos, and the radiance manor photo touched my heart. Life is not always easy. BTW, I love the table! You are creative and talented!

It is sad, isn’t it? There are a lot of avenues people can pursue to not get that far in trouble, but I don’t know what happened there.

Wow! That is a super weekend. Just getting that table done would have been enough to make it a success, but adding on a great ride, good food, and a visit to Radiance Manor–I’m so glad you had two good days like this.

I am so happy with the table. It’s nice when something in your head actually comes out looking like it in real life 😀

It looks like there’s some plants in that back area that would be a great start to a nice bed. Also, was that a flowering tree in the back left corner? Gorgeous! I could see you planting morning glories or some other vining flowers up the chain fence as well. Oh the things you are going to do with that backyard!!!

It’s a magnolia tree! The chain link fence (if we don’t get rid of it) will get some sweet autumn clematis to cover it. Since it looks to be a partial sun yard, I have to be careful about what I plant. I need to keep visiting the yard this summer and checking where the best sun is.

You are just so talented Lori! The table turned out amazing! What a great day for a ride – that’s my husband’s dream house to be on a lake – maybe someday?

Your table came out so sweet!

I know the wait on that house is killing you…especially when you can so clearly envision what you’ll be doing with it, the yard, and just plain LIVING there. Bah to the delay, BAH I say!!

I had this “wonderful” idea for the milk chute. You could shop around at some antique stores and find old-fashioned glass milk bottles and put them in there. Then if anyone ever gets curious and looks in there, they will get a laugh!

Ha, your mom has a much classier idea for the milk chute. My sister has one on her bungalow in Madison, WI- they use it hold the bug spray:)

I love your table, you made it beautiful.

I look at the “love lives here” on your new house a little different. It might be sad what happened to the previous owners but those things happen. As I see it is that you are going to buy a house where there was love, that’s already a headstart in your new home because you are going to continue that “theme” in your new home.

Lovely ride, you had so much better weather on Sunday than we (rain, rain and oh did I mention it rained?)

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful weekend. I look at your pictures of your blooming gardens, and think to myself my poor yard needs so much work. All the new plants are trying to grow, only I haven’t had time to rid them of the old dried out ones above. Maybe one night this week, or the weekend. Love lives where it can bloom, for you that will be Radiance Manor.

Very sad for the previous Radiance Manor owners but somehow I believe they would be happy to know such nice people are going to have their home.

Your ride days were gorgeous. That has to help with the stress!

We had a milk chute in the house where I grew up! AND a milkman for some of that time. (Dating myself.) He delivered all kinds of dairy, eggs, bread … AND popsicles! Guess mom had to know she’d be home on days she ordered those. As kids, we would sometimes pass notes to each other with it when we were playing spy type games. I think you should buy several different things to put in it – when you know you are having guests you swap to something different, to keep them interested. Like a Halloween mask, a single flower in a vase, or a mirror.
