Lifting and the end of tutoring.

Back to lifting today!   I did not lift as much when I was shooting for the 400 biking miles this month.  Doing challenges like this teaches you about balancing exercise.

Here was my upper body workout today:

  • 2-point row:  3 sets of 10 with 20# kettlebell
  • Chest press:  3 sets of 10 with 15# dumbbells
  • Reverse crunches:  3 sets of 12
  • Side Bends:  3 sets of 10 with 10# dumbbells
  • Lying chest flies:  3 sets of 10 with 10# dumbbells
  • Arnold Press:  3 sets of 10 with 10# dumbbells
  • Bent Reverse Fly:  3 sets of 10 with 8# dumbbells
  • Front Raise:  3 sets of 10 with 5# dumbbells

Then I got on the treadmill and did some walk/jog intervals.  Sort of thinking of testing the running again.  I know, I know

I am done with literacy tutoring now.  I had mentioned before that I was going to be stopping. We were waiting to get a new tutor set up for my learner.  I had let him know a few weeks ago that there would be a transition and he seemed okay with it then, but yesterday he was not okay after meeting with his new tutor.  I had a meeting with him after that to see how it went. He ended up angry and yelling very loudly at me and stormed out of the McDonalds (where we do our meetings).   It was a pretty horrible experience. Then as I left, he came back around the building and told me to tell John not to bother showing up on Thursday for math tutoring and continued yelling as he rode away.  That was really not how I wanted things to end and after 1-1/2 years of tutoring, I certainly did not deserve being treated like that.   Ugh.  Unfortunately for him, he will have no more tutors because the literacy coordinator told me she cannot assign a tutor to someone with outbursts like that, which is too bad for him.  Thank goodness that stress for me is done, although I wish it had a better ending.

I also got some lab results back.  Blood work looks good, although my cholesterol was a little high.   I also had a thyroid ultrasound done last week:

ultrasound

That was really interesting. I have never had an ultrasound done to me.   Turns out I have small thyroid nodules, which would explain why I was feeling something in my throat.  As with most thyroid nodules, these are benign and I just need to have an ultrasound yearly to make sure they aren’t getting bigger.   So, lab work is pretty clean, but no real answer to my fatigue (other than stress).   I am hoping once we get done with the move and work stress eases up that I will feel better.  If not, there are some other tests I can have done, but for now I will just keep on keepin’ on!

On a fun note – We were at the mall on Saturday night and I found the perfect mug for me, even though I didn’t buy it LOL!

Well, I know it doesn’t help your fatigue but I’m glad that all the lab work looks OK!!!
Any word on the move? I hope that isn’t just a constant source of stress still!!

We still don’t have a closing date, but hoping that it is closer to the end. It is pretty much a constant source of stress with the waiting.

Oh that mug made me LOL.

My BF has something with her thyroid (don’t know if its nodules or something else.) But hers has grown and she is actually having surgery this week to remove it.

Continuing stress can actually make you physically ill, so I’m sure it could be related to fatigue too. And double ugh on the whole tutoring incident. I want to say something worse, but I will stop with that. Glad you are done with it.

The tutoring thing was pretty miserable and certainly left a bad taste in my mouth.

I would have bought the mug if we didn’t already have a bunch of mugs. Now if it was a bowl, I couldn’t have resisted LOL!

Yowza, what a terrible way to finish tutoring! That guy sounds like a real peach…sorry he yelled at you. That is not a good thing at all. 🙁

It’s done now and I know that I did all I could to help this person. It does make me appreciate how good my relationships in life are that no one behaves like that with me.

That is crazy about the tutoring. Glad you always did that in a public place. He sounds like a loose cannon. I’m wishing you a stress-free, cupcake-filled day.

There are several reasons tutoring happens in a public place, and this is a good example of why.

And not a having cupcake, but a bagel today 😀

That is so unfair to treat you like that after tutoring him for 1.5 years. You really didn’t deserve that and I do hope he thinks about this again and apologize to you.

Great news that they didn’t find anything. Sure it still gives you no answer for the fatigue but at least your bloodwork turns out fine.

I’m sorry to hear that your tutoring experience ended that way. I suspect much deeper frustrations going on there which he chose to take out on you. As crazy as it sounds maybe it was because he trusted you. I bet John doesn’t even want to tutor him after that though.

Glad to hear your bloodwork came back decent. I would suspect it is the house/work stress causing the fatigue. Especially the house business which has been going on for quite some time. Your body just can’t take that constant suspense.

Here’s to EVERYTHING smoothing out soon!

Well, I know he didn’t really want a new tutor and I think maybe he thought if he said he didn’t like the new tutor that I would be staying.

I’m so sorry! That sounds like a scary and frustrating experience. I guess maybe he didn’t really know how to express his frustrations? Hang in there. 🙁

So funny, that you may want to try the walking/joggin thing. After 2 days of headaches, followed by 2 days of vertigo, I decided to just walk Tuesday and then last night, biked. This was the first time in quite a few years. Strted at my house, 2 miles south on RT 4 of the lock, rode to FE park and took the bike trail all the way to the intersection where Rt 254 Auto place is, then home. Not sure how far that was, but it took me 1 hr 15 min. My thighs were burning. Tonight I think it wil be my favorite walk/jog route again, Lol.

Oh, so sorry you were the target for your learner’s frustration, what an awful experience. So often those individuals have issues beyond literacy which makes change extremely hard, and in a way, it does show he had made a connection with you. You did your best, just put it behind you now and take a walk through your garden.

    One tough workout. Good job.
Love the mug 🙂 You’re right – perfect but how about
a bagel mug? I see more delicious looking bagels going
    on here than muffins. 😉

No, you didn’t deserve that sort of reaction from your learner. I can understand his frustration, but that wasn’t the way to handle it.

I’ve got a pin with that cupcake saying on it. So us! 🙂

I actually do a lot of volunteering with people who have mental health issues and it can be scary when they have outbursts. I’m it’s over and now you can be a lot less stressed. Of course a cupcake would help too 🙂
