I had accepted that second job a few weeks ago. When I first interviewed with the company, I watched an introductory video and I was a little uncomfortable with the owner, but I figured it was just some nervousness about working for a new place and all that and figured I would give it a shot.
My account coworkes have been great. They have been really helpful and very nice. I have been doing good work on the account. However, the company just feels like it is in flux. The owner called that mandatory meeting at 10 pm on a Friday night with no notice and every day she was emailing with changes that we needed to follow. There were emails and corrections to previously sent emails. I was beginning to feel more and more uncomfortable with how she was handling things and I just knew it wasn’t the right fit for me. So, I talked with my account manager and she tried to talk me into staying. She said that the owner would get like this and then calm down, so it sounds like this is not uncommon, but honestly – I do not need any more stress LOL! The nice thing is that the account manager put my status as leave of absence with the option to return at any time I want to. I don’t think I will do that, but it was very nice of her to give me that option.
So, that leaves me with just my old job, which is slow right now. It means less money because of that, but the sense of relief I felt yesterday was huge. I think I will wait until things settle down with the house before I look at other options. My advice? Don’t try to rehab a house and work 2 jobs LOL!
On a fun note – the flooring came in! (and yes, still working on the cabinets 😀 )
It’s cork flooring, which is something I have wanted for a long time. It’s eco friendly, water resistant (not waterproof), softer to walk on and dings and dents will come out over time. You just have to be careful not to drag stuff across it like a fridge that would tear the cork.
The flooring came a lot faster than expected. We aren’t ready for it yet, but at least it is ready and waiting!
That floor is going to be so pretty! I wouldn’t dare try cork with Paco’s nails, though…I guess Pixie will be a little gentler than my crazy dog. 🙂
Cork flooring is a little more durable and I imagine Paco is not a big enough dog to mark up the floors. Pixie doesn’t have front claws, but she has back ones and races around so we will see what happens 😀

I LOVE the idea of eco-friendly….you know recylce-queen over here…..And the cork is pretty… But how in the world do you get the frig in place then? And if you had a table and chairs in there could you scoot your chair back to stand up?
So glad you found relief from that job…… if it was anything like how i felt when i left my Lowe’s job of 15 years then i know your feeling light as a feather….. The Lowe’s job went from loving to go to work every day and just disintegrated into a job i hated….. Enjoy the house remodel! Hugs!deb
Well, you shouldn’t be dragging any appliance across the floors because that will mark up any type of floor other than ceramic. Appliances will get wheeled in and settled into place.
And I guess you’re going to Install the floor yourself too? Wow. I like the look of the cork too, but , like Shelley– with 4 dogs, prob not going to work for me. Can hardly wait to see the finished room! And yeah, totally in favor of eliminating stressful jobs
Yes, John and I have put in so many floors in the last couple years that it is old hat LOL!
Smart decision Lori! The stress wasn’t worth it and now you have more time for the rehab.
I am not a fan of cork. It wouldn’t work with Bella either besides I’m so clumsy now and then that there is spilled water or coffee or wine on the floor because I dropped it 🙂 that’s why I have a hard easy to clean floor.
I am curious as to how the cork will hold up. I decided I didn’t want tile because I have come to hate grout in a kitchen and wood was out because it would be too hard to try to match the rest of the flooring in the lower level.
Good for you Lori, that huge sense of relief means it was the right thing to do. Even if the owner “calms down” from time to time, you’d always be waiting for the next crazed period. I like cork too – don’t they have some finishes or maybe it’s a manufacturing process, that makes them more durable now then when they first appeared? Haven’t shopped for flooring in a long time. Having such fun watching your progress.
Yes, cork floors aren’t like a corkboard message board. They are a lot firmer than that and have a protective coating.

I’m really interested in that flooring and how it will look. I’m not sure cork is ever anything I would have considered for a floor. I’m still at the “I wish I had tile” stage. I guess I’m behind the times!
Relief = right decision, no doubt. The money will work itself out!
No amount of money is worth that kind of stress. I know it will all work out for you in the end – and that you do have the option to go back.
So the cork flooring is for the kitchen? Do you have to treat it with anything??
