Settling in

We made it to the other side of the weekend’s move!  We did have some help packing and unpacking, but the moving part was by ourselves.  Thank goodness for being more fit than the last time we moved 8 years ago!  John also made a point that he is never moving again and I am to remind him weekly of that.   😆

Too much stuff.

Pixie came over Sunday afternoon for good.  She was not liking all of the stuff being emptied out of the house.

Are we there yet?

Do you like the piano?

WP_20141005_003

I can now say I have moved a piano LOL!  Of course, it is missing the metal string compartment as John converted this to hold his keyboard. That got rid of a ton of weight in the piano since we were just moving the outer casing.

It’s going to take a while to get settled here, and we still have to clean up the old house and move a few leftover things.  It’s overwhelming to find new homes for everything:

Of course, it would be really nice if we could actually take a few days off to get things in order, but being self-employed, we just don’t have that luxury and were right back at work this morning.  Gotta pay for this rehab!  At least no commute 🙂

It seems we have had a thousand plumbing issues in this house, but something actually worked like it was supposed to – this dishwasher!

First load and no leaks. Whew…

We also did our first grocery shopping trip for the new house.  I am so tired of seeing pumpkin spice everything and I think this is just ridiculous:

It’s time to stop pumpkin spicing everything.

Congratulations…it’s been a long road for you and you still have a ways to go, but much progress has been made. I am so happy for both of you. Hope you slept well the first night. We didn’t sleep worth a darn our first night in the condo and after moving, we were exhausted! Guess it was just first night in a new place jitters as the second night went much better!

Glad you explained the piano situation – seeing it on its side made me gasp! Hopefully it won’t take you too long to get everything settled and you can go back to more of a normal everyday life.

So good to hear from you–that you made it! That pumpkin spice movie trailer was so weird it was funny! So even you are tired of pumpkin! Or is it just pumpkin SPICE?

Anyway, eek on the actual moving. At least all I have to do is gradually bring everything back in from the storage shed.

Yay for making the move!!!! I did a double take on the piano too! Phew! Pixie looks adorable as always. And I agree about the “over pumpkin spicing everying”.
Have a good week Lori. Happy settling!!

About the only thing I like about moving is being able to purge. I am so with you on too much stuff and often wonder why we accumulate like we do!

I like pumpkin spice but I like it as pumpkin, spiced for crying out loud! The rest of this stuff has just gone too far.

Good luck settling in – I’m talking to Pixie here 😉

Woohoo they moved! Congrats! I hope Pixie gets settled in soon, be as said before she just wants to be where you are.

You should move to Holland in October: the pumpkin foods haven’t landed here but that’s because Halloween isn’t a festivity here either.

Your house would not be a home without Pixie. She will have more places to explore now. I have enjoyed the photos of your lovely new home!

OMG, so funny on the pumpkin!!!! YES, it is everything & everywhere!!!!! I rather have molasses in it’s place! – cookie form too! 🙂

Congrats on move & can’t wait to see when you are settled in! PIXIE!!!!! Awwww.. she will take over soon enough! 🙂

    I get the self-employed – hubby always & me too now…

I still remember when we moved into our house 2 years ago and how you have boxes everywhere and no idea where to put things. But each time I emptied a box, or got something situated and set up, it felt so good. Plus, that process really makes the place feel like home. 🙂

I’m glad your dishwasher works! Pixie looks very curious. Has she settled in already? What’s her favorite place in the new house?

You need to write a new feature article: Pixie and the new house. 🙂

I can’t imagine what it would be like to move from my studio apartment after living here for fourteen years. I don’t understand where all the new stuff comes from and why I have to keep throwing stuff away.

How exciting! Hope everything goes smoothly. I hate the unpacking pack. I want stuff to get done NOW and it usually takes awhile….

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE MOVE! I was away on vacation and just catching up. The kitchen looks wonderful, what a great job you’ve done. I’m with John about not moving again. I’ve moved about 20 times, and 5 of those were cross-country, but I fear there is at least one more in the future. Pixie looks perky as opposed to stressed, way to go Pixie, could you be more adorable?

You must be so relieved that it’s over! Unpacking isn’t fun either–deciding where everything goes! Hope the new house is cozy as the temperature drops this fall/winter. Pixie will probably love being near those radiators!

  14. Leah

Yay for getting through the move!

I agree… Enough with the pumpkin spice everything! I love pumpkin baking this time of year, but it’s getting ridiculous. The gum made me roll my eyes. Oh geez.

  15. Lynne

Moving is a pain, but a good feeling when it’s over. And you made it before winter! I agree about the pumpkin spicing of everything! That’s the American way of marketing – everything gets overdone. Ellen DeGeneres even did a little bit about the other day, she said: ‘That’s how we know it’s Fall in L.A. – pumpkin spice everything is everywhere…even the pumpkin said, “enough already – I’m not that good”. 🙂

  16. Lynn

I’m in love with your wall paper 🙂 Happy move-in and welcome to your new forever home! And I totally agree: pumpkin spice needs to be contained.

  17. Linda E.

Yummy pumpkin flavor, especially the baked variety warm and moist and with cream cheese frosting…
Better stop or I’ll want to go get a muffin or donut.
However, completely agree somethings are just meant to stay their own regular flavor.
Moving is fun, unpacking is not. When we moved with the military we had a 14×70 mobile home. Each time we got to our new destination I could have the house settled back in less than a few days, because everyhting went right back where it came from.
Now that we have retired from active duty military life, no more moves on our future, that makes for a happy life.
Hope you enjoy yours in your new home.

OMG, that movie kills! Yep, pumpkin everywhere – even saw pumpkin flavored marshmallows in the shape of . . . you guessed it – pumpkins!

  19. Cammy@TippyToeDiet

I’m not fond of the piano in that position. Maybe if you turned the straight side toward the wall? 🙂

I wish I lived closer. I love finding good homes for things!

Wishing you and John (and Pixie!) many happy years in your lovely new home!
