Hicks Orchard!

Saturday the sun finally came out after days of dreariness.  I wanted to get out and do something other than working on Radiance Manor. While I do love doing all the things to the house, I don’t necessarily want to do it all the time, you know?  Besides – with gorgeous fall weather you just have to get out in it!

Hicks Orchard is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it’s a pretty drive.

Hicks has a U-pick, but they are done with that for the season, which is okay because we didn’t want that many apples LOL!

Move over pumpkin:

Hicks has a store where they sell all kinds of local products, not just apples.

There is a cider press:

Homemade cider donuts!

We bought some critter food and went out to the goat pen.

They have their own Habitrail, which is pretty cool:

Of course, they see the cone and come running!

Does anyone else thing goat eyes are really alien looking?

Nom, nom, nom:

Hicks also has a hard cider winery.

They were sampling hard ciders and I wanted to try some.

There was ‘regular’ hard cider and sparkling hard cider, which I quite liked.  In fact, I bought a bottle to bring to our Thanksgiving dinner!

Of course, there are just apples for sale with a chart on all the different kinds:

We also bought a new to us kind of apple:

And, of course, you knew we wouldn’t be leaving without a cider donut!

Nothing like a fresh, fresh donut. Yummers!  The coffee was small though – tiny.

Now we have a bunch of apples and apple products at home 😀

It was just a gorgeous day to be outside and exploring!

I loved the applesauce column on the chart. My favorite orchards usually have similar charts on display, but I’ve never seen that particular category and think it’s great for those of us always make our own applesauce. I’ve had to Google to find my perfect combination. I really love going to different orchards.

They had a pie section, too. I love the recommendation for Red Delicious, which was “don’t go there” LOL

What a fun day!!! I was hoping you got one of the donuts – those look really good!!!
I had no idea there were so many different types of apples.

Oh man, I so want to get up to Apple Hill!

Yes, goat eyes are alien. Love that they had their own habitrail!

I got mutsu apples a couple of years ago and really liked them. What a fun day you all had!

That habitrail was fun to see. They certainly liked it as most of them were up there until the food arrived 😀

I’m jealous. We never did our foliage run this year which means we never went to the cider mill either. I didn’t get my donut – waaaah!

Hicks looks just lovely. It seems fairly uncrowded too… or did you just manage good angles with your photos? Our cider mill gets so crowded on the weekend I’d never get interior shots like the ones you are showing.

    Glad you got a break.

Fresh cider donuts sound wonderful. I used to love the fresh cherry ones our local grocery store would carry when I was a kid. Now… they are not as good.

That coffee is really tiny! I’d need at least two cups. 🙂

I have been wanting a pumpkin muffin or donut, or even a apple cider donut all season, and have sadly not gotten one yet. Your picture has my taste buds going… on a drive.

The goat habitrail is great! Sounds like a wonderful day away from the Manor. Are you going to review the Matsu?
