Biking and tightening up

It was an active day today. First off was an early morning workout. I had to scrap frost off the car window since it was 28 degrees!  😡   Back to arms again.

Dumbbell Upright Row 3 sets of 10
Lateral Raise 3 sets of 10
Super set:

Super Set:

Seated bicep curl/ Lying Triceps extension

Noodle arms! I actually don’t care to work my arms this much, but I am following a month long program.

It’s really good to get into a strength routine again.  Now that things are feeling more or less back to normal – or my new normal, I suppose –  it is time to tighten up my eating. I want to get off the weight I put on this year with all that freaking stress I was under with the job and the house.  No better time to start than right now. No need to wait until after the holidays, right?

Interestingly, I  was offered a month of frozen food to try from a paleo/low carb type of food service.  I thought about it, but then realized that it was too restrictive for me and that was not a road I wanted to go down.

I also realize that if I am not willing to eat less then I really need to move more.  Ideally I will eat a little less and move a little more 😀

Today I happened to move a lot more.  The weather was amazing today. After starting out at 28 degrees, it warmed up to 60 degrees and I knew I had to play hooky and get a ride in!

Again, I am lucky with my job that I can move my work hours around to take advantage of this weather.

The bike path had other bikers on it with the same idea today.

It was a little breezy, but  great to be out. Each time we ride now, we wonder if it is the last ride of the season. There is some cold weather coming up.  We got in 9 miles.

John got dinner going this morning. He made crockpot red beans and rice.  He has moved to mostly vegetarian eating, so he used a vegetarian andouille sausage in this.  It’s not quite real sausage, but tastes pretty good.

Even better when someone else cooks, too 😀

For more activity, we walked downtown tonight.  I got in an hour and 45 minutes of activity today.  Not quite enough to erase 7 hours of sitting for my job, but not too shabby!

I think had I been offered that food I would have taken it. I think it would be interesting to see what they come up with for a month’s worth of food. But I also understand your point of view of not wanting to be restricted and finding that perfect groove of exercise and nutrition!

Today is our last day of “warm” weather and it’s pea soup around here. So foggy it made the roads wet. Weatherman said this morning there will be a 30 degree difference between today and Friday.

Wow, I’d have taken that month of Paleo food!! 🙂

What’s behind John’s decision to move vegetarian (I think he still eats fish though, right?). Has he never been much of a meat eater or is he thinking it’s healthier? I’m always curious when people make large food changes like that. I find food fascinating (prolly why I eat too much of it).

Please bring the 60 degree weather here! It’s in the LOW 30s with wind. Brr

John used to eat a fair amount of meat. He just kind of has been gradually turned off by meat in general lately. He still eats seafood, but even that bothers him some, but his protein choices are limited without other sources of meat.

1 hour and 45 minutes is very good! I aim for an hour a day and if I exercise in the morning and walk in the evening I reach it. But today I skipped my run because I am very tired which means only walking so no 1 hour today.

I need to eat less and move more too. I don’t want to diet again but like you I don’t want to wait till after the holidays either. Time to put my game face on.

Love your smile on the bike.

That is a good amount of exercise. It’s just the sitting for the job and if I don’t move more, I really have to eat a lot less (which I don’t like to do LOL )

I bet with living closer to your local haunts, you’ll build in a lot more daily exercise without really calling it exercise – and hurray for getting that bike ride in ahead of the arctic weather!

I do like having a goal for exercise like biking to or walking to somewhere. It’s easier to get myself out than just to take a walk. Carrot and stick, anyone?

Cold here, too – high today is 26!
Glad you were able to get out and enjoy some fresh air while the weather was a bit warmer.
And, I almost made red beans and rice the other day – I think it will be happening in the near future for sure!!

Hmmm. I left a comment last night. Must have been a glitch in my kindle? Anyway, I think I just said Yay for a biking day in mid-November! And yes, I’m with you on tightening up the food. And moving just a little bit more. I am almost back to my normal life.

Just curious why John is turning to mostly vegetarian – is it because he doesn’t like meat that much so he didn’t mind not having it? I love beef too much to give it up! 😀
