We thought we were going to escape the snow from the Nor’easter as there had just been rain, rain and more rain. Then yesterday afternoon it turned to heavy wet snow.
Normally I go to the gym early Thursday morning, but I figured because of the weather that exercise would consist of shoveling and I was correct on that.
The heavy snow sticks to the branches and looks beautiful, but it sure plays havoc with the power lines. Luckily we didn’t lose power. We got our driveway cleared of the heavy wet stuff and then in the mid afternoon we went over to our old house to shovel all that. Ugh! That was such a slog. There was a layer of icy slush under all the snow. Good thing I do lifting or I doubt I could have done the driveway. Funny because today’s lifting workout would have been upper body anyway 😀 My old garden:
Seriously – it is only December 11th and we have this much snow already?
It is a little disheartening that this house isn’t selling. There just is hardly any activity in the market right now. Since our house went on the market in late August, less than 10 houses have sold in this town and they were a mix of multifamily or junkers and one higher end house – so nothing really comparable to our house. It’s just really slow right now. We figure we probably won’t sell until at least the spring. That’s a bit of stress carrying 2 houses. That whole stupid delay with the closing and we missed the prime time to have our house on the market. Gah. Oh well, not much can be done about that.
I won the football picks this week and finally got to go to Rockhill Bakery! We worked up an appetite with probably 1-1/2 hours of shoveling done today between the 2 houses. I had a Grandpa Smith sandwich, which is local ham, cheese, granny smith apples and honey mustard on toasted cinnamon raisin bread.
With a bag of chips!

That board is a piece of MDF I got to put over the radiator. The plan is to paint it white and I will be putting my Charming Tails figurine christmas town and parade on it. Only someone decided she liked how warm the board was and has been sleeping on it since I put it there. She was on the board from about noon until 8 pm today. I want to come back in another life as Pixie.

So I have an ignorant question. Why do you shovel snow at a house where you aren’t living?
That sandwich combo is something that I am determined to try before this winter is over!
Shoveling for several reasons. A – city ordinance that the walks have to be clear (not that some people don’t ignore that, but you can get fined). B. I don’t want the house to look vacant if the driveway is full of snow. C. We have our other car there and if we need to get in and out of the driveway, we have to keep it clear. Not to mention if there is a showing for the house, we want it clear.
We actually are probably going to hire a service to keep that driveway because it is too much use of our time to do it.
I enjoy your blog, trying to find a balance with eating right, exercizing, work, is tough. You inspire me to keep at it, I love that you include Pixie pictures, ahh to have the life of a cat.

I can’t believe how much snow you guys got. Here in Holland it’s more Autumn than Winter at the moment. Right now there’s a storm with lots of wind and rain. Nice if you have to go to a winterfair later this afternoon that’s partly outside 🙂
Last year we got so much snow and it never got warm enough to melt off between storms. With all this early snow, we will likely have a white christmas and who knows what the winter will be like. :fingers in ears…la…la…la…:

We had one, but it broke…
Gah, I hate wet snow like that. When we got a snow blower the first few times I used it, it was fun. That didn’t last very long – it’s still work!

I’m so jealous of your snow. I’m tired of the dark and feel completely un-Christmassy. I read we had 13 hours of sunlight in November in Helsinki.
In my opinion Pixie looks much better than any Christmas town can possibly look. 🙂 And yes, she has it figured out.
I had the same question as Debby about why you shovel snow at a house where you aren’t living, but it makes perfect sense once I read your answer. Try not to get discouraged about the house. Ours went on the market in June and sold in December, but it seemed an eternity especially when we started getting heating bills for a house we weren’t living in! It will sell.
The picture of the snow is pretty but I’m happy not to have any part of it.
We had 2 houses for a couple years – it was not fun. After about 9 months we finally decided to sell it as a “lease-to-own” deal. We had a couple of bad experiences but then sold it to the 3rd family that tried it.
