Holiday prep!

Crunch time for the holidays!  Work has been surprisingly busy this week, so I haven’t had a ton of extra time to get stuff done.  We just tick one thing off at a time.

Interesting story. We needed to get the yearly inspection done on the Saturn, which is 14 years old.  John took the car down for an oil change and inspection and then texts me that the car failed inspection and they quoted him $1500 to fix it.  Woah, woah, woah. Not gonna spend that much on this car right now. We decided to bring the car home and think about whether to donate the car or take it off the road for the winter and fix it in the spring.  Then the woman at the counter gave John her card saying that if we were interested in getting rid of the car to give her a call.  *Then*, the mechanic was also interested in buying the car if we didn’t want to fix it.  Makes you go “hmmmmm…”

Long story short, we took the car to a different shop  and it passed inspection. How weird is that?  ❓

We are prepping for Christmas Eve dinner tomorrow at the Manor!

I think it won’t quite look like this, though 😀

Animals are just so funny. Every time.

I just got done making “the cake”.

This Christmas would have been my grandfather’s 100th birthday! I didn’t realize that until my mom mentioned it the other day.  Maybe we should put a 100 on the cake, if it holds together.  It has a big crack in it currently. You never know with this cake… 🙂

Tiny cinnamon roll cookies were done.

These are so durn cute and very poppable. Oopsie.

I plan on a vegetable tian like this tomorrow, so I am going to try to prep that tonight if I get time.  I don’t know how busy work is going to be tomorrow, but I will take whatever money comes my way!

Doesn’t that look yummy?!  Here is the recipe for that. It is pretty simple, which is always good for the holidays.

Wow, that is creepy about the car. And at Christmastime too!

That vegetable dish looks and sounds amazing. I will be trying that soon, if not for Christmas day! And the cake!!! Have you ever shared that recipe? And the cookies….

I howled through the whole dog and cat video. Now Bessie is barking at them?! Merry Christmas, Lori!

I am not a huge veggie fan, but this looks so good and it is all over Pinterest with people loving it, so I have to try it 😀

That kind of thing used to happen to us at inspection places in NYC every time. They didn’t offer to buy the car, but it did always need some kind of expensive (bogus) “repair” in order to pass. Glad you got a second opinion!

Your living room looks cozy & beautiful, and the bathroom looks great, too. Have a wonderful Christmas!

Oh yum! That veggie dish looks delicious! I’m starting prepping for tomorrow this afternoon. Make as much food ready so all I have to do at my Mom’s house is finish it. We spend Christmas eve together with a glass of wine and some cheese. R. has a Christmas lunch at work today so he won’t be hungry tonight.

Seems a bit like the garage wanted to rip you off since it passed inspection at the other garage and they wanted to buy it so badly from you. Glad you didn’t and went to another garage.

    Merry Christmas my sweet friend.

The inspection story doesn’t surprise me. If the place is a national chain you could report what happened to the higher ups. I’m glad you opted for a second opinion.

I’m wishing you all lovely holidays.

Wow, I had the same thing happen to me with my car this fall. What’s up with that. We decided to hold onto our car, too. Will revisit the work that needs to be done after having a mechanic friend check it out after Christmas. Weird.

    The cake looks yummy! Enjoy!

What a scam with that inspection! Glad you held out and didn’t give those crooks what they wanted.

The vegetable tian looks amazing. I’m bookmarking that recipe for later – I bet Jeff and I would eat the heck out of that!

I love your wee cinnamon roll cookies…just adorable! Have a Merry Christmas!!!

Love love love the video! It gave me a giggle this morning, and eased the christmas prep anxiety! Merry Christmas

That is SO shady!! I am so glad you took it elsewhere and got another opinion. I wonder if there is somewhere to report this kind of behavior? Sounds illegal….!!

    Merry Christmas!

Wow….what a messed up inspection story! Glad you took it elsewhere and that is passed. LOVE the video, the tian looks delicious, as do the mini cinnamon buns. I should have been wearing my reading glasses though, at first I thought you said they were “poopable”….oh dear! Merry Christmas Lori! (and John and Pixie)
