Trying to stay warm!

Holy Freeze, Batman!  It has been sooo cold here.  Woke up this morning and it was -10 degrees (-23 celcius).  That is before any wind chill and that certainly doesn’t make me want to go to the gym. No way.  Good thing we have the bike trainers at home.

Good morning to stay in with a hot breakfast!

This is cream of wheat cooked with a mashed banana and some egg whites (added at the end).  Good stuff.  I really have made some good habits since we moved, one of which is not eating breakfast at my computer.  I do still look at my phone, though LOL!

I have to post this that floats across my pinterest feed periodically (including today) and it makes me laugh every single time:

I have been there, doggy. I feel you 😀

Pixie has been finding the radiators too hot for her now.  With this super cold, they run longer and get hotter, so she lays on them for a while and then lays on the floor near them.  I decided to move her bed near the radiator so she wouldn’t have to lay on the hard floor and she seemed pretty happy about that.

Now she alternates being on this radiator and then in her bed.  Of course, it is kind of in the tripping zone, but the things we do for our pets…

I am eating different veggies per my 2015 ‘project’.  Dinner tonight was roasted butternut squash with my chicken:

I know some people call that a starch, but it’s a veggie to me.  😆   I am thinking about getting a veggie spiralizer to make veggies more ‘fun’ – since I apparently need to make them fun to eat more of them.  I have a gift certificate to Amazon and have been looking at the Paderno spiralizer.  Have any of you tried it?

With this cold weather and the fact that I work from home, it is really hard not to become a complete hermit.  We did want to get out of the house tonight and having to check to make sure the pipes at the old house hadn’t frozen was a good excuse.  John dropped me off at the library while he checked that and then we hit up the coffee shop:

You might or might not remember that I am looking for an old trunk to use as a coffee table.  I have actually been coming across a fair number of trunks, but they aren’t quite right for the coffee table. However, they have a lot of potential, so I might just get one and try to restore it just because. Maybe sell it or keep it somewhere else in the house. Cause I really need another project, right?

Oh my gosh–that is COLD!! My doggies discovered the wood rack right next to the wood stove, so I kindly put a pillow there for them. and then i moved their bed over next to the stove too. Yes, what we do for them…

I have a hand held spiralizer which I like okay. Its kind of hard to get the end of the veggies through it, so there’s a little waste. I’ll be interested to see what you think of this paderna one if you get it.

Your breakfast looks nice and comforting 🙂

I actually just ordered the 4-blade one, which is supposed to have a little less waste and be more compact for storage. I am wanting to do sweet potato stuff, so I hope it holds up to it.

That is COLD! I can’t remember ever having experienced such a cold in my life. We have a storm here (well it’s dry but the wind is hard) and the temperatures are Autumn style.

Yes, you can need another project. Why? Because you love doing it and restoring things is relaxing for you. So if you find it: buy it!

I really enjoy my Joyce Chen spiralizer. It’s not as fancy as the Paderno but it gets the job done. Like Debby said, pretty much no matter which one you get, there will be a tiny disc of wasted veg.

We’ve been in the deep freeze too and I’m already tired of it. Where hasn’t it been colder than normal in the USA this week? It even snow flurried in Jacksonville, Florida yesterday!!!

It’s snowing like crazy here. I’m hoping it stops and they get the roads clear before I have to leave work. Otherwise, it’s gonna be a hellacious ride home 🙁

I had the same spiralizer as Helen, but didn’t like it that much, so it left in the last purge. The Paderno one looks good, but I’m trying to not add to my kitchen clutter at the moment. So I’d appreciate it if, when you get it, you don’t make it look too appealing, mmkay?? 😉

I agree – it is cold and I would be happy spending my days like Pixie!!! I have been out every day but only because I have to – I would be perfectly happy hibernating when it’s this cold!

Posted this under the wrong day/thread, so here it is again ….. (and mine is also the 4 blade one)

I’ve got a Paderna spiralizer and love it. It works wonderfully with beets and I use them frequently for a lunch salad: arugula, spiraled beets, goat cheese, sliced almonds, EVOL, balsamic, s&p. With zucchini, make sure you get big ones. Little thin ones don’t work well, so the bigger the better. With the “zoodles” I frequently dress them with homemade pesto, crumbled walnuts, and shredded romano. I’ve also turned them into Thai “noodles” with extra veggies and Thai spices. The Paderna is also easy to clean. You’ll like it!

That dog thing is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!! I may or may not resemble that at times!!! 🙂

LOVE Pixie – she rules the house! 🙂

I laugh when I think how we say we are cold here in southern CA. 🙂

trunks are great for storing extra pillows/blankets, ect.
another use for them are baskets. I have a ton of baskets that I use from time to time but they take up a lot of storage in a closet…I just throw them in one of my old trunks…I have three! 🙂 I use one at the end of my bed and one inside a closet and one in our hallway.
