It is March, isn’t it? You think that and now it is snow again today. Yippee!!
Anyway, in honor of Dr. Seuss’ recent birthday, I found this to be quite amusing.
Progress is being made on the chair. I love working on my projects, but I wish that I could do it all the time and not just in spurts.
But… I digress. The chair was really wobbly, but those things can be fixed pretty easily – and it is what makes them cheap to buy. When I pulled off the bottom webbing, I could see why it was wobbly:
There’s your problem, ma’am. It was an easy enough fix. Glue, hammer the joints back together and a few screws. Now it is solid again. I love easy fixes.
I was trying to decide on the finish of the chair. This is what it was:
It doesn’t show too well, but it had kind of a speckled finish. I don’t know if someone did that or what, but I decided to go ahead and paint it instead of stripping it down because I really liked how the off white would look with the purple fabric. So, I chalked up some of the moonlight white that is the trim paint for our house and went to town:
I decided to wax this piece instead of poly since it isn’t like a table or dresser that will have stuff sitting on it. I am in the midst of 3 coats of wax on it. Then I used the old fabric pieces as a template to cut out the new ones and got to work on the back panel. 
I actually remembered to put this piece on with the reverse side in since it shows through the back.
The air is so dry around here and it seems everything sticks to the suede with static. I imagine Pixie is going to be getting hair all over this chair…
The inside of the chair now gets its foam back put on:
And then that will get covered.
Of course, I now need to go out and get new staples or tacks that are longer since the other layers fit into a channel, but not tonight with the weather. I hope to get this chair done by the weekend 😀

I don’t know how you manage working at home in this season… I’d be housebound I’m sure as honestly, this winter, my full and my part time jobs are pretty much the only reasons for me to leave the house!
I get stir crazy sometimes. We often go out in the evenings since we have been inside all day. One of the reasons I work hard on the house and projects is because of how much time I spend here. I want it to be my castle 😀
How pretty! When you are looking at the colors for the wood and the fabric, do you base it off of what room you are putting it in or do you look at each individual piece on its own for what would look best? I would love to be crafty enough to tackle something like this. 🙂
Well, a few factors go into deciding on that. The first is finding a fabric I like in color and style. Then deciding if that fits to scale on the piece I am working on – that’s the hard part. My house style is kind of eclectic, so I don’t worry so much about what room it fits in because if I like it, I don’t care if it matches to someone else’s eye. The wood was not originally going to be painted on this chair, but after seeing the purple against a light color, I liked it much better than the dark wood.

Do you read books or search online to know how to do these repairs? I like white painted furniture. I have some, not that I was the one who painted it…
I haven’t read up on furniture repair, really. The chair repairs you can just see the problem. When something is rickety, it means the joints are loose. So, that was the first thing I searched for and found the problem. It really is an easy fix and too many people pitch furniture that just needs a little tightening. It’s a shame we can’t do that with our own joints.
I like the purple and white together. Bold, yet elegant. Very pretty!
I can’t get in the mood for my projects, for some reason. Just as well, I suppose, because I’ll be looking for reasons to be outside when it warms up a bit 🙂
I want to get my projects done now before it gets nice outside because I won’t want to be doing them then! 😀 We have a ways to go before biking season – or even gardening season.
The chair will be so pretty! I had to laugh at the cat fur comment, though – I’ve been tempted to knit a throw and was eliminating yarn colors based on how much Paco’s fur would show up on them!
I know – I hope I don’t regret this fabric choice, but then I realize her hair gets on stuff anyway and with a coat that has calico colors, I just have to deal with it.
That chair is really looking good! Just catching up – I want it to be spring so bad, but I know how our Chicago winters are. My daughters birthday is on March 7 – some years it was so warm we had water balloon fights at her birthday party, and other years I’d have to shovel six inches of snow!
