Change in seasons, change in eating

Bike season is winding down, which means that I need to look more closely at the foods I eat.  I wish that I could just eat whatever, but that’s not the case.  Well, I could just eat whatever, but I don’t want the resulting weight gain that would go with that 😛

I actually did really well with balancing my eating and all the riding this summer, which I am pleased about.  However, that transition is proving to be hard. Cupcake rides are almost over and it is really difficult to fit those into my diet without a lot of exercise – and during the cold months, there isn’t anything I want to do for 3 hours.  Not even the bike on the trainer. Boring.  Plus, I don’t want to slog exercise just to eat a cupcake. Summer riding is fun with a cupcake tucked in there as a bonus.

Fall is also the time of all the foods I love to eat like baked goods, candy corn !!!!, chowders, ect.  Of course, having to really watch how much I take in can make me kind of cranky. Still after many years, I have trouble graciously accepting that I can’t eat that much. Or even as much as I used to just a few years ago.  Now that is annoying.  It can be hard to watch John be able to eat foods in the evening that I want to have, but he is a man and gets to eat more than I do. Even when he cuts back to lose (he recently got back to his goal weight, btw), it is still more than I can eat.

There are a lot worse things in life than not being able to eat with abandon.  It’s certainly a first world problem, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t feel that way.  I do accept it, albeit at times in a crotchety complainy way.  😀

I’m in the heyday of exercise eating, so you have my sympathies for bike season ending…bye bye, cuppies! 🙁

Yeah, it would be nice to eat with abandon, but we both did that, and we both know where that got us.

Amen, sistah! I was just thinking about this today. haha, I think about this every day 🙂 Anyway, the one thing I reminded myself was that I truly do want to eat more for health, and not just for pleasure. If I ate all the foods I really wanted to eat for pleasure, I wouldn’t have any room at all for any healthy foods. Been there, done that…

P.S. I found the Zachary’s candy corn and bought some today! It is now up high in the pantry in a plain brown wrapper 🙂

This type of post is so encouraging to me. So glad I’m not the only one who gets cranky when they have to cut back. Sigh. Definitely a first world problem, but a problem none the less.

Thanks for continuing to be real and sharing with us.

I miss when I was training for a half marathon and could eat more, but right now I don’t feel like doing another one anytime soon.

I’m so glad you have that leeway in the summer to indulge a lil bit more. Wish it were possible to do it all the time, but alas, it is not. I’m working on cutting back more too. Grudgingly, BTW 😉

I so feel for you! I have become convinced that part of my fall and winter doldrums are the cut back in eating. The problem being that my brain is screaming for the type of relief that summer exercise gets me but since I can’t do that, it wants food to provide that same relief. Additionally living and eating with a normal eater who is not overweight and gets to eat a lot more than I do adds another dimension. I probably have more food tantrums in the cold weather than at any other time.

P.S. Being more active year round is just one of the reasons I would like to live in a more temperate climate.

You can complain about it! It’s just not fair that not everyone’s metabolism is the same. Some can eat whatever they want while others always have to watch what they eat. I hear you sister!

Totally get it! Sometimes when I buckle down and are stricter with my calories I’d go through an adjustment period of feeling cranky about not getting to eat what other people get to eat….And cycling? Burning 1000+ calories was kinda like christmas morning! Eat all the things! LOL
