Tuesday things

I can’t believe we are approaching November already, can you? I don’t know why I get surprised when the weather is colder because it is almost November 😀  I have gotten in some riding this week. Still going out when the temps are in the 40s. Not long rides, but 30-40 minutes.  Now weather is coming in from the hurricane, which is crazy that something that started in Mexico is leaving through New England. It’s our turn for the wind and rain now.  That will probably do it for the fall colors around here.  This was the view yesterday from our dining room:

With gusts predicted up to 50 mph, these will likely be gone in a couple days. I’ll have to take another picture 😀

Progress on the headboard. I painted it with Moonlight White.  Not sure why that color shows up so bright on the web, but it is an off white.  It’s cold working in the garage and it takes a while for coats to dry, even with the chalk paint.

I like how the trim stands out.

I am putting some satin poly on it and then will be antique glazing – very subtle. The poly will make it easier to put the glaze on and clean up any oopsies rather than glazing right over the chalk paint.  Not sure when I will get to the glazing part, maybe later in the week. We have our annual pumpkin carving party on Wednesday night.

I have been making soap again.  My longtime customer ordered a bunch and I decided I am going to reopen my soap business all together. Work has been frustrating since forever (as you all know very well). However, the accounts that I am on now seem like the ones no one else wants and I can see why. Production goes down, which means I effectively got a pay cut for harder work. No bueno.  So, that is the reason for getting moving on the basement renovation for a sink area so that I can produce larger amounts and set up my workshop.  Here is one of my test runs.  This is an ocean scent and I put sea salt on the top.

I am not sure if the sea salt is a fail or something good yet.  A lot came off when I cut the soap into bars. I need to test ship it and see how it holds up.  The fleur-de-lis is a soap stamp, which is something fun and different. You just press it into the fresh soap bars.

More soaps:

So, all this means getting a license, setting up banking, building a website and doing all the necessary stuff for that. Needless to say, things are getting busier around here.  ‘Cause I was just laying around eating bon-bons, you know.

I like how the trim stands out too!
I am shaking my head in awe about you adding new activities to your already busy life. Maybe I need to set some productivity goals.

The painted headboard looks really good. 🙂

Love the two-toned soap, and the little decorative stamp as well. Who knows, maybe the soap business will surpass your current job and you can quit that one altogether. It would be nice to make a living doing something pleasant.

Oh, and hope the rains from the hurricane are not as crazy for you as they were for us. TOO MUCH RAIN, seriously.

The sea salt is pretty on top of the ocean scented soap. And the view out your window is gorgeous. Sorry bout the rain. Could we just have a tiny bit of it?

Also amazed at how busy you stay.. 🙂 The headboard is looking good! Good luck with your soap business.

I hated accounts that were harder but you were expected to produce the same.

I just wish we would get paid more for accounts that cause a slow down in production. In other industries, you get bonuses or you charge the client more for those. Unfortunatly not with MT. Or at least if the company gets charged more, we aren’t seeing it on the MT end.

Ocean scented soap? Maybe I need to become a customer and buy some of that to get me through the winter doldrums 🙂

I too am amazed at how far that crazy hurricane has traveled. As I was driving to work this morning, enjoying the foliage because we are at peak this week, I wondered how much of that will be left by tomorrow morning. They’re actually even predicting a steady rise in temps all day and night and possible thunderstorms!

I think we are supposed to hit 66 degrees tomorrow, which is totally crazy! If it weren’t for the rain and wind, I would be out biking 😀

Love the look of the sea salt on the soap. And the stamp. Nice!

Can’t wait to see the finished project with the headboard.

Are you going to quit transcribing altogether? I’m the gal who emailed you about this a while back. I still haven’t started working again. I saw my old boss from the hospital in town. She is surprised the hospital still kept a few transcriptionists. (They outsourced a few months after I quit but still do radiology and I think pathology). When I read on the MTstars boards, it seems like the outsourcing companies are not good to work for. The yellow tree is beautiful, by the way. 🙂

I am not sure if I will be leaving or not. You really can only go laterally anymore in this industry. It is hard to be unappreciated for your work. Our local hospitals do have some in-house MTs and it isn’t actually all that unusual to keep a few, but I doubt those people are going to give up their jobs.

PS – My boss meant she is surprised they are still there NOW. I actually quit a few years ago. The hospital was bought out by another company, also.

I’m impressed at all your DIY skills!! The soap looks great! A friend of mine also makes her own soaps and I wish I was more into the bars, I just prefer liquid soap because it’s less messy. But the bars are so pretty to look at and smell divine. Hope you can get your business set up in your basement and eventually leave that job. It never ceases to amaze me how shortsighted employers are, what a way to motivate a good employee! Hope the storm isn’t too bad.

Sorry about your job – I know it ebbs and flows, but it sucks to be at the mercy of it. I am happy you are doing the soap again, because you are good at it – I may become a customer once you are up and running – let us know. 😀
