Soaps and trunks

Feeling kind of busy around here. A lot of it my own making, but I just have to hang on for a few more weeks until things settle down.

I had a visit with my rescue kitty buddy Mister Boo this weekend! House/pet sitting and I got to love on him. One good thing about where we live now is that there are fewer strays.

I spent a lot of time this weekend prepping for the open house. It’s going to be a long weekend. The show runs Fri- Sat – Sun from 10 am to 5pm each day.  At least I get Thursday off this week, hopefully.  Work will probably be spotty this week anyway with a lot of doctors taking the week off.

My soaps ready to go:

Here is the link to my new business: Savonology . It still needs a little tweaking. I keep taking pictures of the soap hoping to make them better. A lot of time spent boxing up the soaps and putting labels on them. I am a little nervous for the show because it has been so long since I have done one, plus being a shy person, talking to people for 3 whole days is exhausting 🙂

We still were able to squeak in a ride this weekend.  It was 48 degrees on Sunday, but it felt colder because it was breezy and cloudy. Brrr….

No matter how busy we get, exercise is always fit in there. You never regret the time you make for your workouts.

More randomness – the pileated woodpecker visited again. He must have a nest nearby because he circuits around to our yard periodically:

These birds are surprising big, too.

With all that I have going on, I am trying really hard to limit my projects I accumulate.  When I get really busy, there are things that take a back seat, like practicing my guitar and working on my trunks. Somewhat successful on that front until today when a trunk came across my path and the I couldn’t resist the price. I had seen this on my vintage list and resisted, but then the price dropped to 25 dollars. I can only resist so much:

It’s not a really big trunk like some of my others, which is nice. Plus it has this cool stamped metal underneath the paint.

The deal sealer? It doesn’t smell on the inside LOL!  I think John is just resigned to me doing all this stuff because he certainly is not able to stop me 😀  I do have enough to keep me busy for about 5 years, though.

Thanksgiving this Thursday and my goal is not to treat this like a whole holiday week withthe  eating. It’s easy for me to say ‘what the heck, it’s a holiday’ starting on Monday, which makes it all the more difficult to get back on track afterward. So, that’s my focus.

What a pretty cat that is! So nice that you get to visit someone you rescued. I often wish I could let the former owners know that the dogs I rescue have ended up with a pretty nice life, especially when I know that they are older people who didn’t really have any choice in giving their animals up.

I love those big woodpeckers. I only see one maybe once a year.

And the trunk! Yes, the stamped metal is very cool. But all that paint! That looks like a big job to me!

Your soaps are so pretty. Good luck this weekend. It should be a great weekend for sales.

Boo is with my parents, but he is such a scaredy that when there are a lot of people around, he disappears. So the only time I get to pet him and stuff is when I go there by myself!

That trunk will be some work with all that paint, but at least it doesn’t have canvas on the outside and paper on the inside. And it doesn’t smell! Yay!

I love your old trunk!! Thanks for linking your site for your soap! They look so pretty! Good luck with your show! Can’t wait to hear how it goes 🙂

I wish you a boatload of success this weekend and that the tongue fairy will come and untie yours. If you can engage people with your passion for your product, you’ll be fine!

Your thoughts on eating this week intrigue me as I actually have committed to super clean, healthy eating right up until Thanksgiving Day. I just know I’ll appreciate the food so much more if it hasn’t been cluttered with junk!

I do appreciate the food more when I am not eating a lot. Sort of like a vacation and how by the end you really want ‘normal’ food again. I just know I will pay dearly if I start getting lax this week.

I am sure the weekend was a huge success!

Thank you again so much for the soap you sent me, it’s so sweet of you. I am using one piece in the bathroom now (the oatmeal one) and R. asked me yesterday: that soap, is that Lori’s soap? I said yes and he said it was nice soap and it smelled good and I agree on that.

You are having Thanksgiving on Thursday, I have a very boring meeting that will last all day. Wanna trade? 🙂

You’re welcome. Glad you like it

I don’t think I’ll trade that meeting. Too much good food and football on Thursday 😀

I love that metal-stamped trunk! Of course you HAD to get it…it’s like yarn, sometimes you need to buy that winning skein even when you know you won’t be able to knit with it for a while. But it’s there, ready and waiting – just like your trunks. 🙂

After chatting with the vendors at the CGFF, I know you’ll be great with your soap booth – honestly, I appreciated the calmer, quieter vendors over those who were more aggressive in showing me their wares, rather than letting me look and ask questions first. Your soap is really pretty and I bet it will be very popular.

I don’t like aggressive sellers, either. I just like a hello and let me browse kind of thing.

See – you get the trunk thing. How could I *not* get it?

I actually looked to see if my gym is open on Thanksgiving, and it is so I plan on starting my day off on the right foot. And my focus will be on family, not the food. 😀

Hi Lori, your soaps are so pretty! Didn’t you once say that your husband has a soap business? Is this your own soap business or have you joined up with him? In any case, good luck, I’m sure you’ll do very well because they look so nice.

John runs a supply end for soapmakers. He carries the raw ingredients, but he doesn’t really make the soap. He can make it, but he doesn’t. So, I’m basically his customer for my business 😀

I think your soaps look lovely! As far as photographing them, maybe you could try propping different colors of poster board behind them to see if that makes a difference. GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND!

I think I found a sweet spot in the house for pictures that gives really bright light and I have a white board, so I going to try some more pictures this week if I get a chance.
