Snow, dentist and cleaning!

(FYI, I know my blog layout is all weird. Not sure what is going on with it)

It’s definitely wintery around here now.  This is definitely not biking weather anymore.

It makes me feel a little blah, though. The last couple of days I have felt like doing nothing at night other than vegging. Not typical of me, as you know.  This helps some:

All the pretty catalogs are arriving to look at and plan for the 2016 gardens. Lots of work to do on that front. We hope to put in a water feature and the other half of the front garden beds get shrub removal and new plantings. Gardening is never done, but that is part of the beauty of it.

Adding to the blah stuff is me needing a root canal. Over Christmas, I woke up in the middle of the night with sharp pain in my tooth. I thought maybe I had cracked a tooth since I do grind my teeth. It took a few days for the pain to subside. I knew I had a dental appointment in a couple weeks anyway, so I just waited to talk to him today. He said there isn’t anything else that would make you wake up with tooth pain other that root issues and there is a dark smudge on x-rays showing signs of root problems. While it isn’t urgent, he said the root canal will go much smoother and be pain free (yes, he really said that) if I wasn’t symptomatic when I had it done. He said when people had bad experiences with root canals it was either not good pain control during the procedure, which there was no excuse for, or that it was done while somebody was having swelling and inflammation, which makes pain harder to control.  He did say it was a boring procedure because it takes a while and you have your mouth open for a long time, but it’s not bad. Not sure I totally believe the no pain thing, but I won’t put it off. Our health insurance doesn’t cover dental, so that is a serious annoyance. I guess I had better buy a powerball ticket tomorrow 😀

Anyway, on a different note we have made the master cleaning list from the 2016 goal list.

It’s now been a couple weeks using this. One area per week. This doesn’t include just day to day stuff, only things that you don’t think about doing regularly. It will be interesting once we get around all the zones in about 6 weeks and come back to the first one. I will say that the house is really dusty.  😳

Not to mention the hair ejecting machine:

I still love her, though.

Hair ejecting machine-hahahaha! The only dog breed I know that can rival a cat’s shedding is pugs. I am contemplating changing my usual black clothing for a nondescript gray-beige 🙂

Root canal queen here. Yes, no pain. But boring? How about irritating. And a sore mouth afterwards from all the manipulation. The thing that bothered me the most was the dentists that use a “rubber dam” for their convenience IMO. It made me feel like I was suffocating. I will no longer have work done with that in my mouth. Did he tell you you will have to have a crown after the root canal is done? That is even more expensive than the root canal 🙁

My eyes kind of glazed over at the cleaning list. I just don’t want to deal with that now. I’ll come back and look at your lists when I’m feeling more energetic 🙂 The snow is so pretty, but yeah. I would just want to sit and veg. And dream with those beautiful plant catalogs!

I have a couple options after the root canal. They have some sort of silver cap that isn’t a full crown and costs less or I could get the crown. I will go over that with the dentist again. I hated getting my 2 crowns done. I had poor anethesia and the dentist hit a nerve. My leg shot out and kicked the instrument table! So, I have my doubts about pain free. I seem to have poor luck with that.

Jeff has had many root canals (and crowns – just bad luck with his teeth) and he swears by having an endodontist doing it vs. a dentist – says the difference is night and day. Just a thought, especially if you’re paying for it anyway. Teeth issues are rough. 🙁

And wow, winter is really there! Nice that you are doing the garden planning; the water feature sounds great!

I’ve had several root canal treatments. It’s not fun but once it’s done and the pain is gone, you will be happy you did it.

@Shelley, Jeff and I can shake hands on this, same here 🙂

Your cleaning list is a great idea. I do my cleaning now once a week on Monday night and save extra chores which I will do once a month on my day off. This should give me one day in a month where I don’t have to clean on my day off.

Snow bleh! We haven’t had real winter here yet but the forecast is we could get some wet snow on Friday and Saturday. We’ll see, it won’t be the first time the forecast is wrong 🙂

    And Pixie is so adorable.

OOOOH I AM STEALING THAT IDEA!!
(the master list not the rootcanaldentistone :-)).
I tend to fly by the seat of my pants and somethings are always cleaned and others? um. never…

We still haven’t gotten the snow like you but our wind chill today is 12. I get the blah feeling – seems to happen to me mid-January no matter what. I’m pretty sure the only way this won’t happen is if I move somewhere warm and sunny, which I will do when I win the Powerball 😀

I need to make a master list like that too. I’m pretty good with a lot of it but the clean the baseboard deep cleaning stuff always gets away from me.

This past fall I had a root canal that took three, count them, three, rootings to be complete. Yep, three! Apparently one root was hiding out for a while. I had no pain during these procedures. Yay! My last root canal was not the same, but still, there was little pain. This is one area where a dentist who knows what he’s doing is worth his weight in gold. 🙂 Good luck, Lori. I’m sure it will go well for you!

UGH I am so sorry you have to go through this. Root canals are never fun or easy or pain free. 🙁 I hope yours is close to pain free though.
Do you have a night guard? They are certainly not sexy but they help. I don’t grind my teeth but I clench when I sleep and was starting to have issues. A night guard helps.

Oh, sweet Pixie! Worth every hair on your clothes and that you have to vaccuum. Love her!!! I’ve been feeling SUPER bleh too. And I’ve never suffered from post holiday bleh before. I just want to stay home, and like you, that’s not who I normally am. (having trouble getting my act together to do my photo a day challenges this week. And I LOVE that….guess I need to kick my own ass)
Cheers to a more energetic week ahead for us both!

Yep, this is my least favorite time of year in the midwest – January and February, but then March is my birthday month and the days are longer and it’s that much closer to spring and summer!

Unfortunately, I’m very experienced with root canals and your dentist is correct. The act of getting a root canal done isn’t painful. It’s those few days leading up to it that are a nightmare.

I seem to have a lot of trouble with format on my blog – not sure why…

I have had more root canals than you can count! Some are worse than others depending but sometimes they are not that bad as long as you have enough novocaine.. it hurts after but doesn’t any tooth work… HUGE HUGS!!!

    Pixie cuteness!!!!!
