Sparrow and no more fence!

Another weekend zooming by. It was chilly and breezy, so no real long rides this weekend. I did manage to get in about 30 miles total over the 2 days, so not bad. This was the wind blowing the flag:

I ended up with chapped lips from the wind today!  I also was out in the very cold this morning. I met my mom for breakfast and decided to bike, even though it was in the upper 30s, just because I knew it would warm up some while we were eating.

Yay for time with mom!

John was away this weekend and I spent a lot of time outdoors. We had all that fencing to remove and we decided to just go ahead and list it for free on Craig’s list with pictures and description describing the condition.

We finally got a couple people that came, one earlier this week and one came today and took almost all the rest. Now we only have this little bit to dispose of.

Yay! So glad we don’t have to get a dumpster. I don’t think whatever fences they make will last long, but whatever. The funny thing? On a side note – The gentleman that came by today said he used to work for the man that owned our house. He did not have kind things to say – just like everyone else that talks about him. That guy sure is a piece of work. He also just got out of jail for skipping out on his child support payments. Deadbeat.  He did not deserve Radiance Manor.

Anyway, I like to bring my camera out when I am working in the back to get pictures of the birdies. The cardinal:

And a bonus house finch at the feeder.

Spring also heralds the return of the white-throated sparrow, which as a very distinctive song. You can listen to that here.

I finally got a shot of one with some patience staying really still.

I love the birdies!

I thought I would share some pictures in the future of the Chapman museum where I started doing my volunteering. Here is something that was donated – an old switchboard used in Glens Falls:

Could you imagine being an operator and having to work this to connect callers?? Crazy.

Excellent photo of the cardinal. It looks professionally done! Maybe your next business will be bird photography. I could see you making notecards or something of your bird photos and selling them!

Looks like the volunteer gig will be fascinating! Bet some genealogist will be interested too

Radiance Manor is SO happy and relieved that you and John moved in.

Ooooh, what a cute sparrow, and its song is wonderful! Thanks for the bird website link, I didn’t have that one.

That’s a great site, isn’t it? So many times when you go bird watching, you don’t actually see the birds, so learning the calls helps.

    The bird photos are gorgeous!

I thought about you yesterday. We went to a store that sells mostly accessoires for in house and they also had second hand/vintage stuff. I saw a very old telephone, typewriter, vinyl records and … a lot of trunks. You would have loved walking around in that store.

So you still have a chain link fence on one side of your yard? I don’t remember seeing that in the last pictures.

We had ANOTHER storm last night, that blew out the electricity, so I was pretty sure you had written a blog, but I couldn’t check it! I wish we had cardinals out here!

Yes. I hate the chain link, but that will stay. I am moving over my clematis to that area (which I planted to go up the fence) and try to hide that.

My MIL loves cardinals, too, and they don’t have them in CO, so she enjoyed seeing those here when they visited last fall.

How great that the old fence was taken…scavenging is very popular around here, so if you don’t want something, just put it out on the curb and within 24 hours, it’s almost always picked up. Plus our trash service takes EVERYTHING, so whatever isn’t taken would be picked up for free…free as long as I pay my utility bill, LOL.

Great shot of the two birds! Love all the red in that composition.

The interesting thing a couple weeks ago – we had a delivery that came on a pallet. I have 2, so we put the pallet out at the curb in the afternoon and it was gone by the next morning. A few days later we got a letter from the city telling us to remove the pallet because it violated city code laws to have debris on the curb. How ridiculous. The zoning person must have driven by our house that afternoon that it was out. Not to mention that everybody always does this!

I LOVE those coffee mugs!!!!! We don’t get very man pretty birds & such here. Last weekend I was so excited to see a maybe bluebird? I don’t know but it was such a treat!

Can you just burn the rest of the wooden fence that’s left? Just a thought. Glad you got to spend time with your Momma – we actually had temps near 80 today, but back down to the 50s the rest of the week 😀
