Recovery update

I passed the two week mark since surgery- yay! I do have to say that those two weeks were hard.

I was sort of expecting that I would be having very little pain at this point, but that isn’t the case. It’s sooooo much better now, but my incision is still quite painful. It’s healing nicely, though. I saw my regular care provider last week who said everything looked beautiful, which is really relative when talking about a 6-inch incision in your abdomen ?

I think it must be the nerves healing that is causing the pain now and that particular pain isn’t relieved by ibuprofen.

I am walking much better. Still slow, but getting a bit faster each day. I walked about half a mile yesterday in two segments, which was tiring, but went well. Sleep is also good. My insomnia has taken a break and I’m sleeping through the night, which is great. Probably because I get tired out so easily. This is my tired face

I was disappointed when my doctor said no biking for 6 weeks, but to be honest, I don’t even want to think about that now. I’m sure after 4 weeks I’ll probably be chafing at that restriction ?

My hormones seem to have settled down a bit. Much less weepy now, thank goodness.

I go back in for a postop visit tomorrow for another check in. Just taking it one day at a time and I’ll be good as new before long .

I’m so glad that you are recovering well. Surgery really “takes it out of you”. It’s amazing how the simplest things can make you exhausted! I think you’re approaching things so well….taking short walks and enjoying your garden. You can still point to weeds that need pulled and I’m sure John will take care of it. 😉

All best wishes for your continued recovery.

Your exhausted face still looks pretty good. So glad the recovery is coming along and for that balancing out of the hormones. I remember one episode…oh, it was not good!

Pain sucks, especially when it’s constant like that (and don’t get me started on nerve pain – the worst!). I hope this is all behind you very quickly and you feel normal again.

This is a way quicker recovery than my herniated disk, which you can totally understand. My doc said today in another week I should be feeling really good other than fatigue, so fingers crossed.

Didn’t realize yours would be open surgery. Mine was with the scope and the recovery was negligible, physically. (I did have back surgery 12 days before, so there was that….) Hope you are on the mend!

It was open because of the size and shape of the fibroid. They couldn’t do it laparoscopically.

Rest! Rest a lot. I know it’s hard but it’s good for recovery. After I had my surgery I was surprised about taking a month of from most activities, too, but honestly? I was so worn out and fatigued easily from even just going for walks or going back to work that the idea of working out sounded exhausting! Take as much time as you need.

Two days or so after my husband had his gallbladder removed (laparoscopically, but since it turned out it was packed full of what the surgeon described as “rocks,” they almost had to convert to an open surgery–and he was in a lot of pain afterward!), our neighbor showed up with an enormous load of horse manure he’s gotten somewhere– for my vegetable garden. The neighbor was older, and he expected my husband to shovel it all out. I tried to explain he’d just had surgery, but the neighbor just acted like “So?” And my poor husband, with me trying to talk him out of it, started shoveling, until, after a minute, he had to stop. The neighbor & I finished the job, & I didn’t even want all that manure.
Which I guess is a long way of saying, take it easy–and don’t let your neighbors give you any sh*t! 🙂

I guess I didn’t realize you were having open surgery. I’ve had several friends who had it done that way and it seems to take a bit to feel better. But worth it in the end so for once I think you have to focus on that! So, follow doctors’s orders and try to enjoy the downtime. You’ll be back at your busy life soon enough!

It was open because the size and shape of the largest fibroid made it difficult for the laproscopic. My doctor said they could attempt it, but in all likelihood they would have to convert to open, which would add about another hour to the surgery. The fibroid was completely spherical and the size of a pomegranate. Thankfully I have the c-section incision because she had talked about the possibility that it might be an up-and-down incision if the removal was difficult.
