Fright Fest!

Happy Columbus Day (or Thanksgiving for my northerly neighbors). I am working today, so here is a recap of Sunday and Fright Fest at 6 Flags Great Escape in Lake George.

Sunday was the Cram part of Stuff and Cram weekend. Phew.

John and I each got free tickets for going to the blood donation last week.  I guess my crying in public was humiliation to get me a free ticket even though I didn’t finish my donation.  😳

They also gave us coupons for discounted admission, so I texted my sister to see if their family wanted to come.  So, Colleen and the nieces joined John and I on Sunday.  It was another gorgeous day and about 80 degrees.

The park is all scarified for Halloween.  Although, not so scary in the daytime!

My new ghoulish friend:

The park has smoky mist all around to add to the atmosphere.  My sister and nieces:

I can be a bit of a wuss on rides.  I don’t do ones that drop you down or go upside down.  Like the Sasquatch:

I don’t mind the balloon ride, and I rode with Devon while Colleen and Logan went on the Sasquatch.  I see paparazzi taking my picture!

We had fun on this ride:

It was crowded at the park since it was such nice weather, plus the holiday weekend.  I am not big on crowds, but the weather certainly was nice to be at the park.

Time to take on the Canyon Blaster!

Roller Coaster!  I like this one.  It kind of reminds me of the Great Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney.

Ride our speed?  The sky way.  This is nice and quiet and you can look over the park.

Feet action!

Guess who wears wide width shoes??

Colleen and Devon. We are taking pictures of each other!:

The castle:

I spy a train – choo choo!

Another of my favorite rides?  The carousel!  Complete with smoking hearse:

I was kind of in costume as a football player, but didn’t do the patches under my eyes.

I could also have gone as a Broncos fan if I had I put a paper bag over my head…  🙄

A little hungry now.  We had snacks and I tried a totally lame cider donut and it was bad, so I opted for a caramel apple! Got my fruit in 😀

I haven’t had a caramel apple in forever! Yum! Although it did give my jaw quite the workout.

Looks like some people were in line too long here:

We then went on the bobsled.  I like this ride, although it is a bit hard on the legs with the side to side banging.  It’s cool because it actually goes along like a bobsled without being on a track.

We were team Jamaica! Yeah, mon!  Take that Canada!

It really felt like a summer day.  So warm and sunny.  It was really cold when we went last year.

No more blood donating for me, so I guess I don’t get a free ticket next year 😀

Pink item of the day.  This was the pink outline on the sky way ride:

The Breast Cancer Site

It’s feeling like Halloween up in here!

Question:  Do you like amusement rides?

Fright Fest!

I took a day off from blogging yesterday (the keyword post was scheduled ahead of time), but we sure did have a nice day.   Woke up after a good night’s sleep and made up some protein waffles topped with pear/cranberry topping (the apple topping just make with a pear instead)

John and I decided on a post breakfast run.  We headed on down to the track and went round and round.  John is faster than I am, so he finished up earlier than I did and took some action shots of me.

Look at her go!

I did 3.25 miles today.  The loss of speed for me is pretty frustrating, but I just have to work on it and hope it comes back.  Then again, if it never does, I will just have to deal with that.

Lunch time before heading out to Great Escape was baked buffalo shrimp.  These are a frozen store brand, but not buffalo enough for me – so I added some more hot sauce and a wedge of bleu cheese LC!

And dessert:

Off to Fright Fest:

Scary.  This was fun.  The park is all decked out in Halloween stuff and scary music was playing throughout the park, plus mist everywhere

We scored free tickets to get in the last time we gave blood, so what a bargain!

Lookout – I am going to get eaten!

Looking down from the ski ride:

We ride fairly tame rides. The balloon ride:

We did go on the bobsled, but I obviousy couldn’t take pictures while on it.

I will tell you that one thing that will never get old to me is slipping into a ride and not worrying about whether the bar will close down over my lap or if I can cram my butt into a small seat, or worse yet – to not fit at all.  When I was 250 pounds – that was always on my mind at an amusement park (or an airplane, for that matter).  I looked down at my lap and just felt so grateful for that.  I also love that John and I could ride something together and there was space on each side of us!

After the bobsled, I was ready for something warm –

This place sold fudge, which looked amazing, but we resisted.  I thought this place might have lattes, but they just had brewed coffee.  I had a Seattle’s Best coffee at $2.49!  However, I will say it was very fresh and brewed properly (meaning not weak).  I was happy.

Riding the carousel.  😀

John is starting to grow his winter goatee.

Salem  witch hanging for family fun.  Real person –

I found the most unusual pink item of the day:

The Breast Cancer Site

I was starting to get really hungry at this point, and cold as the sun was getting ready to set, so we headed on out and went to dinner.  We stopped at Cool Beans where I had more coffee 😳

What does this mean about the dental work?

Egg bagel sandwich.

Very tasty.  I was still feeling hungry after this, so we decided to split a raspberry white chocolate scone.

That’s the stuff!

I had a deep chill after being outside most of the day, so it was blanket time for  a Saturday night, movies and Playstation.  We sure know how to live it up!

Great Escape

So today the weather was nice and we decided it would be the day we went to Great Escape (6 Flags). I was a little nervous, because this is the first time I have appeared in public in a swimsuit in at least 2 years. I know it’s silly, but that doesn’t stop the self conscious feelings.

The loose skin on my thighs was bothering me today. Funny – I go out in tight bike shorts and a tight dryweave top when I bike or jog without too many issues now – but the swimsuit felt really different. I think it was because I wasn’t being athletic today, just being relaxed. Of course, no one said anything to me, no comments or anything like that. Probably I didn’t even garner a second thought to anyone except myself.

We bumped into my sister and 4 year old niece at the park today, which was quite a surprise! Heard someone call my name and thought “Who the heck could that be?”. And there was my sis! And the first thing out of my niece’s mouth was “I like your swimsuit Aunt Lori”. 🙂

Small vent here. We have been trying to stay away from corporate meat. We do eat local farm meat that is locally processed, but try to avoid mass meat products. So, trying to find a vegetarian meal at Great Escape was really, really difficult. One place had a greek salad, but it was full of onions and olives – so that was out. The other options were just side items like a bowl of coleslaw or a fruit cup. Finally, we found a place in Wiggles World that served grilled cheese sandwiches, complete with smiley fries. Made for little kids, but it worked for us. Not having children, I can tell you that eating in Wiggles World was very surreal. So, I am thinking I might write a letter to them about the food options.

Needless to say, grilled cheese and fries were not the best for my plan, so I’ll have to be diligent for the next few days. At least we got in a lot of walking! We did manage to avoid the fried dough, cinnamon roasted nuts, and ice cream stands, so some victory there!
