What’s Blooming Today!

Friday already.  That was a fast week, don’t you think?  I am tired of this, though, aren’t you?:

Sunday should be a cooler day finally!

I went out for an early walk this morning at 7 am and I was soaked after 20 minutes. Yuck.

I made up a banana breakfast pudding and let it sit out to cool down while I got to work (and had the Tour on).  While I waited for that to cool off, I made up some iced coffee!

Yep, decaf.  Still going on the decaf.  I don’t notice it much now.  I think because I am still drinking coffee (yes, I do realize there is trace caffeine in decaf) and I get the psychological boost from it.

I mixed up some peanut flour with honey and water and topped my breakfast with that.  Then I saw the coconut in the fridge and decided for a Friday treat!

I like to live dangerously…

I was not super hungry for lunch because of the heat, so I just put some stuff on a plate and called it good.

Don’t you love meals like that? That was a very juicy nectarine, too!

Now time for this week’s garden blooms.  Half of the garden is all full of color right now.  Gotta wake up the other half!

Next week the butterfly bush will finally be in bloom.  Gheesh!

Sunsprite rose is full of blooms right now.  This year has been the best year so far for this bush.  It likes its home.

I can smell this when standing near the garden.  It’s lovely.

Bi-colored snap dragons by the butterfly weed.

My new Green Envy ecchinacea.  I am a little disappointed that it isn’t more green, but maybe that will come out as the blossoms mature?  Not to mention somebody was nibbling on these!

Galliarda. These pretty much bloom all summer long.

The daylilies are starting to wind down.

Even more blooms on the french marigolds.

I love the creamy poms on these.

Knockout rose.

White swan coneflowers.

I did not plant these here.  They just seeded themselves and I left them.   That’s why a garden is always evolving.  Plants always find the place they like the best to grow.

A couple new flowers will be open next week, too.  Can you wait? I can’t 😀

Another cool snack for today:

I was so productive with work that I finished up my day at 4 pm!  Yippee!  I could then get some guitar playing done before dinner.

Speaking of dinner, I grilled up some more chicken and had it with BBQ sauce, laughing cow and caramelized onions.

Yum, eh?

All chores are done, so I can relax tonight!  Too bad it is so hot or I would go out riding.  I will be having some chocolate, though.  I will have that after I sit down and open up my Google reader for the first time today…

Question:  How are you surviving the heat wave?

It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity

I am melting in this heat.  Actually, it is the humidity that does me in.  I was so tired yesterday that I started to fall asleep in the afternoon.  Then last night I could hardly keep my eyes open and I just gave in and went to bed at 10, turning off the light at 10:30.  I usually go to be around 11:30.

I started my no caffeinated coffee week this week.  😯  I am questioning what I was thinking with my goals this month, but I will persevere.   I roasted up some good decaf yesterday so at least what I drink is good stuff.  I took my first walk around the block while that brewed up and I tried to clear my fuzzy head this morning.

I came back to make some protein waffles and made blueberry sauce from fresh blueberries that I picked on Saturday.  5 pounds of blueberries.  Yum.

I was really tired in the morning.  If it hadn’t been for me being tired yesterday too, I would have put it on the no caffeine, but not so sure now.  Pixie is super hot as well.

Always the lady. 🙄

I took a break for lunch and decided to have some fish.  I have not had tuna for a while since it went back on the ‘dislike’ list, but I do still like these!

These are organic strawberries.  We don’t buy organic on things because of cost.  With the way I go through berries, we just can’t afford the organic.  Of course, who knows what pesticides I am eating.  Oh well.

I really had trouble staying awake after lunch and decided to take my laptop to work in the bedroom with some AC on and take a nap.  I fell asleep for half an hour and it felt really good!  Naps are pretty unusual for me, but I must have really needed it.

I stopped downstairs to get a snack a little later.

Decaf coffee with almond milk and a dried pineapple ring with peanuts.  That was an interesting combo.

I also felt hungry again a little later.  What is up with that?  Heat usually dampens my appetite, but not the last couple of days. I have been snacking like it’s my job.

I had one of my very favorite  snacks:

Medjool dates only for me.  I am totally spoiled.  They are only $4.99 a pound here, so not too bad. It is the one snack I won’t eat too many of because they have such a rich flavor (to me).

We had bought fresh pineapple and I decided I wanted teriyaki chicken with pineapple.  So I commenced to grilling for dinner:

Note I am cooking an extra chicken breast for this week – planning ahead!

John ate his on a plate.  Me, I put mine on a bed of lettuce:

Refreshing.

It is a rest day on the Tour, so no TV tonight.  Can I tell you my geeky happiness?  On Saturday night’s tour recap show, there is a segment called “Ask Bobke” about the tour.  I posted a question to them on Facebook and looked what came on the TV screen!

And he answered it!  Eeeeeee!!!!  I love how they put  MSU on there under my name.  Must have pulled that off my Facebook profile, but I graduated from there with my masters in 1992. (OMG, I just really thought about how long ago that was…).

There is more hot weather coming up in the low 90s (that is really hot for us up here).  And humid.  We had rain today, which just made the humidity worse.  Sometimes it is refreshing after rain, but not so today.  Just need to make it through the next few days.

Question:  Have you ever had grilled pineapple?

So hot!!!

Geez, it is hot and humid here. 95 degrees and muggy. Yuck. Got up early to get my jog in, and it was already 80 degrees. I was soaked in sweat when I got back. No way would I have done any exercise later in the day. We don’t have central air in the house (just the bedroom a/c unit), so I don’t have the inclination to workout.

Will have to do the same thing tomorrow, as another hot one is on tap.

Got right back with good eating today. I decided to bump my calories up to 1400 per day. With the strength training, biking and jogging – I have been burning a lot of calories, and I don’t want my body to start conserving.

Today’s stats:
Calorie goal: 1,400 • Consumed: 1,379 • Burned: 297
Net calories: 1,082

C/P/F ratio: 56/27/17 a little low on fat
