Holiday Week Begins!

Countdown to Christmas around here!  It’s going to be a weird week as far as work goes, most likely.

Thanks so much on the book chapter congrats.  I used to think I would write a whole book about me (cause it is all about me, don’t you know), but I just don’t know if I have the desire to do that or want to take the time,  to be totally honest.  Heck – I should just bind and print my blog!  I was very, very honored to be a part of this.  I feel very humble as well.  My blog is such a tiny part of the whole weight loss on the internet, but I do hope that it gives people some kind of inspiration – or at least a good laugh from time to time.

I woke up to hit the trainer for 30 minutes before breakfast today.  I miss the bike being outside already LOL!

Breakfast today was a new recipe I played with based on the 1 minute muffin –

It’s banana flax! I will post the recipe hopefully tomorrow if I get a chance to queue that up.  I topped this with peanut flour, but I think a moister topping would have been much better.  My breakfast had a whopping 30 grams of protein!  Also 450 calories.  (That is for my 1.5 cups of almond milk, the waffle and the peanut flour topping).

Work was sporadic and spotty today.  I did a few more video takes of my guitar playing. It is hard getting everything coordinated and then to actually play without too many mistakes.  There will always be mistakes, so I just need to decide which video bothers me the least LOL! I have 3 little pieces recorded right now.  I might try for 4, but don’t worry, you won’t have to listen to them all the same day 😀

Lunch break almost looked like dinner –

I needed to cook up chicken thighs that were in fridge, so that was lunch.  With some broccoli and strawberries.  Good, good berries, too.

Pixie was quite awake today.  She was playing with her favorite toy – a paper ball, which we throw around for her.  She will carry it out in her mouth and then bat it around.  She then carried it over and dropped it near my chair.

Expectantly waiting…

Sorry kitty, must work!

I did break for lattes, though.  I had the same snack as the other day and forgot to take a pic, so I shall recycle for you.

I love my lattes.  Like I really needed to say that

Tonight for dinner, I roasted up some fingerling potatoes. John made his own entree, and I had some shrimp.

I did the cream cheese/butter/milk combo for the sauce.  It is so easy and good and you can adjust the amount to be as much as you need.

I did not talk about my food over the weekend, but I went gluten free the whole weekend.  Even on the usual bagel day.  I brought a 1-minute muffin and then bought some cream cheese and coffee at Panera to have with it.  I actually ate some caloric meals.  In fact, we went out last night to watch the 2nd half of the Broncos game since they were not on in our area.  We had potato skins and a bowl of soup.  Very salty stuff, too, so I was expecting a big sodium bloat on the scale.  Did not happen.  How odd is that?  I also was not snacking on a lot of things because of the no wheat.  Too bad I don’t have the cajones to give up wheat forever.

Hoping the Steelers win tonight.  If they win – I win dinner this week!

Reeling in the weekend

That weekend zipped by, did it not? My legs were a little tired after all that riding I did, but I decided to go and see what would happen with a wee bit of lifting.  It was nice enough to ride the bike to the gym today as well.

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Dumbbell Pullover 3 sets of 12 at 20# Back
Pliet Squat 3 sets of 10 with 35# DB Lower Body
Horizontal Wood Chop 3 sets of 10 each side at 30# Core
Barbell Chest Press 3 sets 12 with 45# bar Chest
Low Back Extension 3 sets 15 at 80# bar Low back
Seated calf raise 3 sets of 12 at 140# Calves
Single-leg Dead lift 3 sets of 10 each leg with 15# DBs (30# total) Hammies and balance
Prone Cuban Snatch 3 sets of 10 with 8# DBs (16# total) Shoulders

I was so efficient this morning with super sets and finished that workout in 30 minutes.  Then it was breakfast time!

The 1-minute applesauce muffin done in the waffle iron. Topped with a warmed mashed nanna and coconut butter.  This kept me full until lunchtime, which was really nice.  BTW – I nurse about 10 ounces of either cow’s milk or almond milk over the course of the morning in coffee. That gives me about 12-14 ounces of coffee.

Helen commented on the long bike ride post about how did I manage to stop at 1 cupcake.  I guess I didn’t say that those 2 cupcakes pictured were both mine.  They were and I ate both.  I didn’t really need both, but I couldn’t decide on the flavor.  Normally this shop has 2 bite cupcakes and I will get one of those with the medium cupcake.  They were out of the little ones, so I just got the regulars and figured I would eat what I wanted (which turned out to be all of both).  I definitely give myself a lot more leeway on long ride days.

Yesterday, I got serious carb cravings.   That oftentimes happens to me the day after long rides where I become a bottomless pit.  I made some macaroons last night and proceeded to eat 5 of them.

Phew.  Today I am really trying to swing that pendulum back.  I said no macaroons today, but I can have one tomorrow if I want it.  Gotta bargain with myself sometimes to stay on track.

Lunch time:

Tuna with light mayo and lemon pepper.  I whole can of tuna, I might add.  Need that protein (24 grams)!

I didn’t actually eat the coconut biscuit.  I put in on there for the picture, but didn’t end up wanting it.  Trying to listen to my body and how much food it wanted.

Almond milk latte for a snack, although it was pretty warm outside – in the 70s!  😯

The almond milk foams like a sonofagun, too.

I was really productive with work and finished up in good time.  Love those days!  I took a walk to the hardware store to get some leaf bags to clean up our yard, but they were sold out.  Guess everyone had the same idea. I did get the rose bushes pruned – all 4 seem to have survived this tough winter, yay!

My basil sprouts are doing well:

Then it was time for grillin’!  Such a sight for sore eyes.

I had some of that with  laughing cow on it (and hot sauce).  Tasty.

We are working on the half bath tonight.  The hardware came in for the pocket door, so we can get moving on that last wall. Thank you!  I will post some pics in a day or so.  We are hoping to get done relatively soon as the weather is biking weather and not renovation weather

I got stocked up with this:

So tonight’s snack?  The pumpkin/cream/walnut combo:

Question: Have you grilled yet this year?

Happy Pi Day and weekend nibbling

Happy Pi day! (3/14).  Or happy Pie day, as we like to think of it…

I seem to be doing okay with the time change and sleeping, which is a little surprising to me.  I was up maybe a squidge later than normal, but not bad.

I was hungry and ready for some breakfast!  Today was a 1-minute muffin with some blueberry sauce and topped with a bit of coconut butter.

I do like this combo.  I could seriously eat the coconut butter just by itself.  I have seen it also called coconut cream (not cream of coconut, which is sweet).

I did the little work there was and then got productive and rode the bike trainer.  I did 11.5 miles in 45 minutes.  I actually read blogs while on the bike, so I killed 2 birds with one stone.  No replying, but still reading 😀

Then I practiced my guitar.  I am trying to work towards what my new schedule will be in a couple weeks for my new job.  I will be back to my Sunday through Thursday schedule, but the hours will be from 2 to 10 pm. I am not crazy about that, but I do actually start at 4pm on Sunday, so most of a weekend off.  I don’t know how that will affect my blogging schedule, if at all.  Not totally sure the MT industry is really where I want to stay as it is not something that really can be a career anymore due to offshoring and transition to EMR.  BTW – ask your doctor if their medical records are transcribed in the US or not.  You might be surprised at your personal info being shipped off to another country.

Anyway, it should be full time, but I am a bit gun shy with being told that previously and not having enough work – and I can always use the money. Girl has got to eat, right?  Such as this for lunch:

What is that, you ask?  I had about 1/3 of a cup of the palak chole (recipe) left from the weekend.  Not enough for a complete entree, so I was trying to figure out what to do with it.  I decided to make an omelet with the palak chole as a filling!  It worked out really well and was quite tasty.  I did scramble it a bit too much, but the flavor was very good.  I put laughing cow on the top, but truthfully I could have done without it.

So the title of this post is weekend nibbling. I was looking at my food log for the weekend, and while I didn’t really overeat anything in particular, I did have a few extra snacks.  Mostly in the form of peanuts and some chocolate.  Even after all this time, there is a tendency to want to eat more on weekends.  It’s funny, because I work at home and my schedule is really pretty much the same on weekends as it is on weekdays – only no (or little) work.  So it’s not like office versus home or anything. I have the same access to foods during the week as I do on weekends.

I often times do still plan my foods out in Livestrong for the weekend to help keep me on track, but then I will grab a few extra things.  I know that is probably how ‘normal’ people live their lives, but I always fear going off the deep end and really packing away the food.  Because I still can quite easily.  Yes I can.  The urge is there at times.  Not all the time, but sometimes you just want to say “whatever” and just eat out of a bag of chocolate chips or box of crackers without even knowing how much you have eaten.

On that note, the peanuts have gone up high so I cannot reach them.  I was heading to Snack Town on the express train with them, so I needed to nip that in the bud.

Dinner time full of grocery goodness tonight!

Well, the chicken was from the smokehouse, but fresh berries and brussels were from grocery shopping.  Hooray for natural light dinner pictures again!  Thank you time change.

And in honor of pi(e) day, John made these.

Coconut tarts with chocolate and coconut cream.

Recipe here. These are freshly minted and need to cool, so will have to wait to test them!

Question:  Did you pi(e) today?

Getting through the weekend.

Have a good start on the weekend so far. Got up and jogged 3 miles this morning. 31:33 – pretty good time again! I then ran an extra 1/4 mile. I was sort of thinking about going for 4 miles today, but my pace was too fast for me to want to continue on. Gotta build up to that!

Ate well today, but ended up being sick tonight 🙁 Not sure why. DH did not, so it must have been one of the things we ate differently, which was Starbucks, pretty much. Tomorrow is our anniversary, so hope I feel well enough to go on our planned outings!
We are to take a train ride to see foliage (I wouldn’t want to live anywhere other than the NE in Fall!!!), then to my sister’s house. It’s my niece’s birthday tomorrow as well, and we are supposed to go for cake. Gotta keep control over the cake!

I received a gift card to Target, so we went there today and I got a balance ball with resistance band and workout DVDs. What fun! I blew up the ball, and spent some time getting used to it.

Need to focus more on weekends.

I find myself getting a little lax on weekends. Today I was in my calorie range, but I did snack more than I normally do. I can’t justify the eating with the extra exercise I do on the weekends, even though I want to. I am still in weight loss mode, so it is critical that I regain a tight rein on the weekends.

Tomorrow is my niece’s birthday party, and I will be having a cupcake. They are grilling out, and we are going to bring some Boca burgers so my sister doesn’t have to buy special meat for us (since we only eat local farmed meat). At least I can control that portion of stuff!

I will be going for a 3 mile run in the morning before we go, and starting my new lifting program. I am doing a 28 day body shaping program. Too lazy right now to go get the book and give you the exact title (ironic, isn’t it?). It’s a split routine of 3 lifting days per week and cardio alternate days. The lifting uses superset and pyramids – I am kind of excited to try it! Perfect for a September challenge.

So – my challenge for this week is more forward-looking. I am going to concentrate over the next weekend to buckle down and eat well. Exercise is no problem, as we always bike, but I am going to plan ahead for Sat and Sun.
