Y workout and dining out

Today was one of those wacky food days, you know?  I didn’t sleep really well last night, which was actually okay because I had to get up early and meet my sister at her Y.

yIt’s pretty fancy – and the memberships are not part of mine, so I have to use a guest pass at hers.  Isn’t that weird?  I showed Colleen stage 1 of NROLW.  That was kind of fun to go back to the beginning again.   Then we ran a mile on the indoor track to end up the workoutl.  After we finished, we went to the Fortunate Cup cafe for breakfast.  I love this place – the interior is gorgeous.

I wanted something more proteiny for breakfast, so I opted for an egg, bacon, and cheese grilled sandwich on a belgian waffle.  This was really good!

Plus some costa rican coffee.  I love this mug, it is so beautiful.

After I got home, I gave John a buzz.  I knew he would be on his bike.  He was almost at Lake George by this time!  We talked about me meeting him there for lunch, but I after jogging and lifting, I was not up for a 30-mile round trip bike ride.  We decided to just meet in downtown Glens Falls.  I am glad, because my legs were pretty tired.  John says I haven’t been the same since my 8-mile run.  Maybe that is true.  We decided to go to East End Eatery and have a bite.  This place has amazing calzones, but we decided to forego all the dough and get pizza wraps on wheat wraps.  With a super fresh side salad.

Hot again today.  We went home and got the new air conditioner set up downstairs.  It’s nice.  Pixie was kind of freaked out about it.  She doesn’t like the fans either, she’s so silly.  She slept most of the day (like always!).

Ever feel like just grazing for dinner?  I couldn’t even think of cooking anything.  John was making pasta, but I didn’t want something so heavy.  I opted for a Thomas’ mini bagel with some peanut butter and jam.

I seriously need some kind of intervention with the blueberries 😀

Here is a picture of the biggest blueberry ever!  I put another berry by it to show how huge it was.

It was yummy, too!

Question:  Is it hot where you live right now?

Ever feel like you can fly?

Had an awesome workout today!
I swam for 300 yards (12 laps), then ran for 35 minutes. Then did a lower body workout. Once I got home I felt such an adrenalin rush or something. Pre-coffee and I was already dancing around. I can always tell when I start to get hyperactive because John gets the funniest look on his face, like he’s buckling down for the ride!

Maybe it was seeing the sun this morning, too – even though it is pretty freaking cold here! Hellooooooo March???

I feel very fit. Fabulous, fit, and 40!!
I know I can improve lots, but I really am pleased at all I can do. I am getting excited to do the sprint triathlon. If I like it, maybe an olympic distance one next year! But, I am getting way ahead of myself LOL!

So joining the Y was a good decision for sure. I am pushing myself harder, which is a good thing. Plus actually talking to new people isn’t so bad, either!

I need to figure out some snack schedule for the workouts. I have to eat something before I work out, since it is too long for me to go without eating from the night before with this intensity of exercise. But, I don’t want my full brekkie before I go. Trying to find some calorie balance there. I have been having 1/2 a balance or Zone bar (approx 100 calories), but I may actually eat the whole thing, since I have been starving when I get back home. Don’t want to make my breakfast smaller, though – but I might just be being a baby about that LOL! I’ll just have to play around with it a bit.

Joined the Y

I did it! Finally got off my arse and signed up at the YMCA. Good thing, because if I have to hear Leslie Sansone one more time I am going to scream LOL!!!
Got the new schedule for the pool, and I am excited about doing some bricks for tri training.
I have a 16 week triathlon training program to follow, and the sprint tri I want to do is in July, so I have plenty of time to train. This program will actually over train me a bit for a sprint distance, but I am very okay with that. Hopefully joining the Y and the triathlon training will get me past this little hump and down to goal.

Tomorrow morning – my first workout at the Y!!

Time to get serious

Okay, I am really waffling about joining the YMCA. The main reason to join is the pool, which I will need by April to start training for the triathlon.

I don’t necessarily like the expense and the gas useage, and other than the pool I don’t particularly need the Y, as I have some free weights, a bowflex, my bike (in summer) and DVDs at home to work out with.

However, I know that joining the Y would probably give me that little extra push to get down to goal. I don’t know.

I have to decide how badly I want to get to 135, right?

Weigh in day! Last one of 2008

Weigh in day on the last day of the year. That worked out well! I gained, but I am still in the 130s (just barely). I’ll take it, compared to how much the scale was up the day after Christmas!

So – basically a net 0 for the month of December, but that’s okay! I’m in the 130s. Reflecting back on a year ago, I weighed 172 at the end of 2007. That’s a little over 30 pounds lost in the last year. Not too shabby!

Got up early-ish this morning and took my mother down to the Y and worked out with my sister and the nieces. We started out in the pool. I have a lot of work to do in order to be able to swim 12 laps (the distance for the triathlon). You would think all my strength training would make it easy – but the water resistance is tiring! I also have to practice just using my arms only – since I need to save my legs for biking and running.

We popped in and out of the whirlpool, sauna (hot!) and steam room (hotter!!). It was fun to be in the toasty whirlpool looking outside at the snow piling up.

Then mom and I hit some weight machines for a while. I worked a little bit of my whole body, rather than just upper or lower, since I used whatever machine was next. That means no strength training tomorrow. Nothing like getting off schedule 😀

Then we went out for lattes and a snack at a wonderful new cafe. Good stuff. What a fun way to spend New Year’s Eve!

John and I are going to chill at home tonight. Cold, snowy, and windy – perfect movie night to ring in the New Year.

Tomorrow I will post about my goals and reflect a bit on the past year. Have a safe and happy holiday, and see you next year!!
