Tuesday musings and waffle sandwich!

Went to bed a little later last night after watching the Broncos top the Chargers – WooHoo!!  6-0 baby!  I actually fell asleep during part of the game because I was so tired.  What a fan LOL!  I woke up this morning and nixed the gym because my thighs were still feeling sore.  One more day and I’ll hit the gym Wednesday morning.  I miss my weight lifting.

Yummy protein pancakes with banana/maple topping for breakfast.  We got a ton of bananas at the store the other day.  The over ripe ones were on sale, so I peeled and froze probably about 10 bananas for future use.

Still waiting on the cord for my computer.  It’s so hard to get used to a different one and work efficiently.  It’s like being plopped into a new office and not knowing where anything is, but being expected to hit the ground running.  But at least I am functional!

I was wanting waffles for lunch, and decided to use them as bread for an egg sandwich!  This was sooooo good.  2 waffles are 120 calories, which is less than 2 slices of bread.  With an egg and some laughing cow cheese. And a pear on the side.

We have a winner!  Loved it.

Trying hard to keep calories down today, since I overate yesterday and am not moving around much.   I have to remember to rest  – the duathlon was a big deal to my body and I need to pamper it.

There was definitely some radiance to be found at the finish line 😀  It still feels weird to think that I have done a triathlon and a duathlon (and a few 5Ks) this year.  Who is this lady?  I also know that there is plenty of room for improvement and challenging myself, and it is pretty exciting to see what is in store for next year!

Pink item of the day!

Cranberries are in the store and I finally got around to making the world’s best cranberry sauce.  Served along side chicken and some pan sauteed brussel sprouts.  Delicious!

Tomorrow is bagel day and hopefully biking!  The weather is supposed to be warmer overnight for a change.  The break has been fun, but I do like being back in routine.

Sunday eats

Rest day today!  My legs really need it.  I was feeling a little bummed looking at last year’s stats for the duathlon.  It looks like I will likely come in last or close to it compared to last year’s times.  Of course, the reality is that I am not competing against anyone.  I keep telling myself it is okay, and I know it is, but it still bothers me a little.  Anyone know what I mean?  At least I have endurance even if I don’t have speed.  I know that athletes train for years to get good at their sports, and I have just started running about 1-1/2 years ago and serious biking for a couple years.

My body wanted carbs today! We drove to Panera instead of biking since I needed a rest day and we needed to grocery shop.  French toast bagel and coffee!

Got to work right away.  My new account is full of files to do.  It was a little depressing as the chunk I have been working on most of the day is the neonatal intensive care unit.  Very sad.

Lunch break of Bumblebee tuna sensation.

This was quite good.

Plus an absolutely delicious Macintosh apple.  Ironic that the apples came from an apple orchard that we biked by yesterday!  Maybe that is why it tasted so good.  Wonderfully fresh.  Makes you realize how eating local really can make a difference!  We are hoping to go out apple picking soon.

I have already lost the football picks this week…. boooo!  That means I have to take John out to dinner again.  😛

I had a coupon for a Larabar, which I like but normally don’t buy because I can make them and they are a little spendy.  I tried a new flavor:

Yummy!  Very clovey.  Wonderful paired with my latte.

My folks came over to watch the Broncos/Cowboys game.  Pixie says “Time to stop working, mommy!”

She loves to lay on this footstool, no matter what is already on there!

John made a delicious chili for us to eat while I worked.  I love my hubby!  He used ground beef, white beans (no kidney beans thankyouverymuch), onions, crushed tomatoes and spices simmered in the crockpot all day.  I had mine with some pan sauteed brussel sprouts and strawberries.

After dinner, I had a tiny sliver of a fresh pumpkin pie that John also made (is he amazing, or what??).  I love fresh pumpkin.  Celebrating a Broncos victory!  (Sorry Dad!).

Overall very pleased with how I ate today.  Sundays are very difficult for me, but maybe it was because I got my snacky day done on Friday 😛

New stage for NROLW tomorrow.  Eeeek!

Question:  Do you go apple picking?

Rest day and bike path.

Had a great night last night with some nice street music.  I was pretty beat by the time we got home.

Met my parents at Panera Bread for breakfast and I forgot to take a picture of my blueberry bagel, but know that it was tasty!  Then did some grocery shopping.  We saved $11 in coupons today!

I thought I wouldn’t be working much today, but turns out I was quite busy!   That’s always a good thing.  Took a break for some lunch and had Chobani with cereal and strawberries.

Such a nice combo.  I also tried a new tea (bought with coupon!):

This was good.  It was less cardamom and more peppery with cinnamon.  The hang tag saying was odd, though:

What is that supposed to mean?

I am feeling quite tired today.  I do have difficulty taking a day off, but my legs especially are tired today.  It’s also hard because after a long bike ride, I have a tendency to be really snacky the next day.

We are pretty lucky to have bike paths around here.  There is about 20 miles of trail to go on.  Not all of it is paved, though.  There are chunks that are gravel or just dirt – so that is one reason why I would have trouble with just a road bike.  It’s fine for the 8 miles of paved path, but not the rest.  Some of the path is just a bike lane on the main road, which is not a place I like to ride, but you have to go on some to get to the path.  It is marked with a bike sign to let drivers know to share the road, but I had someone last week yell at me to get on the sidewalk?  What’s up with that?  It can feel very vunerable on the bike sometimes.

Anyway, there are so many beautiful things in this area to see and do.  We live in a small town, and not all is good (Fort Edward is a superfund site – thanks GE), but we enjoy it.  We do plan to move probably to Glens Falls in about 3 years or so.  I would love to live right on the bike path!

So, I am normally scheduled for work on Mondays, so I have to work.  Guess that makes it truly Labor Day!  😀 Not sure if it will be busy or not.

Question:  Plans for Labor Day (US peeps)?

Recovery day and too much food.

Did an active recovery day today.  It’s really hard for me to rest.  I somehow feel like I am going to gain 100 pounds back over night if I don’t go/go/go.  Know what I mean?

So, I did 500 yards of an easy swim, then sat in the therapy pool for 15 minutes.  That was a luxury.  I positioned myself so the jets hit my low back, and then my thighs.  Mmmmmm…….  Then I dragged myself out to walk around the track for 30 minutes.  I kept wanting to break into a jog (what is wrong with me??).

John met me for breakfast after this.  Ridge Street coffee for ….. wait for it….

Plus some of this:

It’s my Friday work-wise, and it was hard to go back home and get to work!  I do not take enough relaxing mornings.  So glad it is the end of the work week for me.  I kind of feel like Pixie did today:

I definitely got the snack attack today.  I don’t know what it is about my rest/recovery days – but those are the days I really *should* be limiting my calories, and yet those are the days I have the hardest times controlling my eating.  I cannot figure it out.    The one thing I am looking forward to about doing after the triathlon is getting back to the weight loss zone for the last 10 pounds.  That is an arena I am very comfortable with.   The training is still so weird to me, even though I have been doing it for a few months now.

So, in being honest – here was dinner.  John and I split a calzone with some feta cheese from a local place (they are fabulous, too).

Question:  How do you handle rest days?  Do you find a pattern of days that you are hungrier than others?

Taking it easy today.

I am icky sick now. It hit me hard last night, and today I felt so bad that I didn’t even want to go out for our normal Sunday morning bagel. You know it’s bad, then. It hurts too much to swallow, so I just had some soothing pumpkin oatmeal.
Been pounding the fluids.

I did have to go out to meet a prospective tenant earlier- who never showed up, jerkwad! I specifically asked yesterday that he call me if he wasn’t going to make the appointment. Not the kind of person I want as a tenant. Can’t follow through with instructions. It wouldn’t have bothered me that much, except for not feeling well.

So, I have been bundled up on the couch with my puter, studying and watching football. It’s really hard to take a rest. I still want to exercise, kind of – even though I really need to rest. It’s a hard habit to get out of. I’m kind of pissed that getting sick happened right when I really had a groove going.

Fall day and more bars.

Today was a fabulous fall day. Why the weather couldn’t have been like this for my run yesterday……

Went to a fall Halloween festival today and spent time with the nieces and my folks. Lots of cute chitlins in costumes today. I also managed to *not* have the wonderful cupcakes I love when I come down to my sister’s. I told John that no matter how much I screamed and cried for one, I was not to have one. Yes, I do turn into a 5 year old when it comes to frosting.

I did a variation of the pumpkin cranberry bars. You know, anyone reading this blog as of late would think I eat all of my food in bar form. But – they are easy and a good alternative to cookies.

Chocolate oatmeal bars
Ingredients:
28 grams of protein powder
2 eggs
1 cup lowfat yogurt (any kind but fruit – I happened to have vanilla on hand)
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 cups of rolled oats
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips

Follow directions here.

More calories than the pumpkin ones, but more protein. John preferred these, because they have chocolate in them!

I must say that I am having a difficult time taking rest days. A complete rest day from both cardio and strength training. Today I just took a slower walk (3MPH) and did 1.5 miles around the track. John did a fast 5K walk/jog at the same time. It was really hard for me not to walk fast, but I wanted to give my legs a break. I have not had any running injuries yet (fingers and toes fully crossed), and no strains from lifting – and I want to keep it that way.
I have my next race planned. There is one locally on Thanksgiving morning! It’s a 5K walk/run – so John is likely to join me on this, as well as my sis (my running partner). Maybe I’ll have 2 pieces of pie if I break 30 minutes!!

Eating clean. My promise.

I am going to eat the cleanest I possibly can this week. This blog is going to hold me accountable! I hereby promise that this week will be clean and focused!
The scale shows a gain from over the weekend, despite all the biking. I have decided that tomorrow I am going no cardio, since I have worked it hard for about a week straight now. Must take a rest day on my legs; it is so hard to do that!

Had a good jog today, although my legs were complaining pretty hard for the first 1/4 mile. That is what made me decide to give them a break tomorrow (wimps!!!).

Time: 34:56
Distance: 3 miles
Pace: 11:41

Rest day

I did it. I actually took a rest day from exercise! I wasn’t sure I would be able to. I really push myself hard, with the jogging and biking, and thought today would be a good day to relax. Days off are really hard!!

Did do a bit of walking at the mall, but that was not really aerobic LOL! I did avoid the pretzels at the mall, but found myself snacking a bit at home. Funny how you can still find things to nosh on even when your house has just good stuff in it!

I went consignment clothes shopping yesterday at a new store. Really neat stuff and what a bargain! I bought all size 12s, but actually could get on size 10!! I was pretty excited. Anyway, I bought a pair of shorts, a pair of jeans and a top, those items totalled $14.50 – can you believe it!

Have a Good Will shop scheduled in for Friday. We need to pick up bottles for our business, and Good Will is pretty much on the way there. So John is dropping me off to shop while he picks up the inventory. Good thing, because I need time when I am there!
